how do I make sidecar run better on my MacBook Air 2017

how do I make sidecar run better on my MacBook Air 2017

I recently added OCLP to my MacBook so I could use sidecar but whenever I enable it the screen on my iPad 9 has a lot of artifacts. is there a way to fix it, Im pretty sure another thread said there was a problem with an older video encoders or something, any suggestions would be great. also I plan to swap in a motherboard with an i7, would that improve it?

macOS 15 Wireless Sidecar Black Screen Issue — Possibly Caused by Video Stream API Changes, Can OCLP Patch This?

Body:

Hello developers,

After upgrading to macOS 15, I encountered an issue where wireless Sidecar no longer works properly:

  • Device: Laptop, Intel Core i7‑9750H
  • GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 (hardware acceleration enabled via OCLP Root Patch)
  • iPad: iPad mini
  • OCLP Version: Latest Nightly build

Issue:

  • Wired Sidecar works normally
  • Wireless Sidecar connects successfully, but the iPad screen immediately goes black

Possible Cause (based on the symptoms and known technical background):

  • macOS 15 may have made low‑level changes to Sidecar’s video stream handling
  • Some calls may have been migrated from the legacy AppleGVA / VDADecoder interfaces to new APIs
  • OCLP’s current patches still rely on the old interfaces, causing the wireless mode to fail to establish the video stream and resulting in a black screen

Request:

  • Is there any plan for OCLP to implement a compatibility patch for macOS 15’s new video stream APIs?

Thank you for your hard work and support!

Should I sell my spare mid 2015 on a newer OS?

Obviously it stopped at Monterey. Should I sell it with Sonoma or Sequoia instead?

I have two 15-inch models and trying to get rid of one but wasn’t sure if I should. Figured I’d get y’all’s opinion on this.

I'm scared to run the incremental updates 15.6.1

Everything and I mean everything is running smoothly on Sequoia on my 2015 MacBook pro. So quick and snappy.

I've had the notification for the 15.6.1 update - but as the title I'm worried about messing up the installation.

Should I take a chance - run the update and install root patches and hope for the best. Or be patient and wait?

Mid 2014 MacBook Pro stuck on Apple progress bar after using Time Machine

Hi, I’m hoping someone might be able to help. I followed Dr Macintosh’s tutorial video to upgrade to Monterrey from Big Sur.

Things went well up until the point where it asked me if I wanted to back up from Time Machine, which I did. Once I did this and it said it would take a few hours I came back to the Apple logo and the progress bar stuck around a third of the way.

Whenever I try to reboot the same thing happens. I’m not sure what to do as the video doesn’t say anything about this and I’m scared to make a wrong move at this point. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you

Success on macbook pro 13' mid 2010

I used to mess around with hackintosh using clover and later opencore, and have some experiences with installing mac os on incompatible system.

This macbook pro 2010 that I am tried to update holds a special place in my heart as it is the first mac computer that I have owned.

I still have skype installed on it, and have patients who are younger than it, that is how old it is.

All the other macs that came after do not appeal to me, whether it be the lack of connectivity: no 3.5mm, really? and now the ugly receeding hairline notch on the new ones.

The last OS available for this MBP is 10.13.6.

I usually only use it for data logging whilst roasting coffee, and very light word processing tasks so that has not really bothered me.

But with more and more programmes dropping support for 10.13.6, I needed to upgrade to maintain even basic functionality.

Following the very well written guide on the opencore legacy patcher github, I managed to install sequoia with opencore.

Problems I encountered during the installation:

  • The first usb installer stick I created did not work. USB boot did work, and I could use the disk utility and safari whilst in the installer. However, when I press install, it says something along the lines of the installer does not work and please try again later. I downloaded the installer again, and recreated the USB installer and for some reason it worked. I guess computers work in mysterious ways, and it is totally reasonale to try the same thing and expect different outcomes.
  • The first time the installer rebooted, the default booted my original high sierra desktop, which caused some confusion.
  • The installation took a long............................. time. In the order of 6-7 hours. Thankfully much of that I need not be there, it was just the progress bar slowly crawling across the screen.

Things that work:

  • All the root patches are installed automatically because I created the installer using the opencore patcher.
  • Wifi, the built in touch pad and keyboard works.
  • Both USB ports work.
  • Built in speaker and microphone works.
  • Screen brightness control works.
  • Keyboard backlight controll works.
  • Charging works is slower than before the upgrade, but I think that is from the increased power consumption of running the new OS, and I no longer have a original magsafe charger to test.
  • I have only used it for less than an hour now, but not discovered any show stopping problems. Admittedly I am not fully in the apple ecosystem, and do not have an iphone to test mirroring, imessage, facetime etc. But so far Everything just works!

Things that do not work:

  • After the first boot after the installation, my little 2 core CPU was pinned at 100% for hours, but eventually it finished what it needed to do. Now every little thing I do would peak the CPU to 100%, but I guess that is just the way it is.

  • GPU acceleration in neither chrome nor safari. I kind of expected that, because it never worked in 10.13.6 neither due to nvidia and apple falling out.

  • parsec, crashes on launch and just displays a blank window. Not done any research on getting it working yet.

Thanks again to the developers of opencore for breathing new life into my little macbook pro!

Mac Mini Mid 2011

Mac Mini Mid 2011

Hi members,

Noob question: I have an old Mac mini (mid-2011). Could you advise which macOS version is the most compatible without sacrificing speed and performance?

I’ll mainly be using it for browsing and productivity tasks. It still works fine on the current version, but most apps can’t be installed anymore.

Thank you.

Error installing sequoia on MBP 13,2

As the title shows I'm trying to install OCLP on a MacBook Pro 13,2

I created the usb etc and booting into efi then to the OCLP drive. The install was all going well until it restarted into the prohibited screen. When I tried to boot back into EFI the option was not there. The OCLP drive was there plus the internal Mac SSD but I couldn't boot either without the EFI which was not present as it was before.

I done a restore and I'm back on the latest OS for my Mac and I'm going to retry to install sequoia but just wondered if I need to do anything different etc?

Thanks for any help

Fresh install of Sequoia on 2014 5k iMac with 3TB Fusion Drive - Worked!?!

I just did this and when I got to the select install drive I had 3 options.

iMac Fusion Drive 3.12TB

iMac Fusion Drive - data 3.12 TB

SSD. 125GB

I tried the SSD but it was locked.

Then I tried the first Fusion Drive but ended up in reboot loop and then tried the middle Fusion Drive - Data.

Which worked. And now I’m booted into Sequoia and in Finder I see the Fusion Drive as the OS drive.

Is that correct? I read everyone saying that it’s not possible. And that I should use the SSD. (Which I now learnt I can install on if I unlock in disk utility during install).

Anyway, have OpenCore added this as a new feature?

Updated MacBook pro 11.1 to Sequoia 15.6.1

Ok I earlier made a panic post yesterday coz my mbp was so slow after installing Sequoia (from Sonoma) via OCLP.

Managed to get the root patch in and that solved a lot of the issues eg the animations to minimize a window took 30 seconds , and now back to how it was with Sonoma.

Still a bit slow but what can you expect from such an old machine. I'll keep the Sequoia on that as I use the device just to browse the Internet and read PDFs

Is it time to bin it?

Is it time to bin it?

Hey every, hope you‘re doing better than me.

After more a less an entire week of trying to install Sequoia on my 2011 1TB mac I‘m not getting anywhere anymore.

It was running Sequoia beautifully until a couple of weeks ago when the power went out due to a thunderstorm, the computer obviously shut off but wouldn’t finish staring up when restarting.

I had to erase and install and it managed to install the OS once or twice but there were significant bugs present until it wouldn’t react at all anymore.

And now I can‘t even reinstall High Sierra and am getting this error message.

I tried looking online but didn’t find anything I would be capable of doing, is there any way to fix it or is the computer cooked?

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Update to 15.6.1 went wrong, whats is the best way to get a working MacOS again?

The update to 15.6.1 went wrong.

MacOS boots, but the loading bar gets stuck at roughly 25%. Also the boot screen just shows MacOS, no efi boot, I thought it should? Not sure though. If i press space upon boot I see:

- MacOS

- Recovery 15.6.1 (dmg)

- BootKicker.efi

- Openshell.efi

- Reset NVRAM

I can get in to mac recovery. Does anybody know how I can restore this the best way? I don't have access to another Mac.

Patching impossible because of pending update (Sonoma, MacPro 3.1 OCLP 2.40)

Patching impossible because of pending update (Sonoma, MacPro 3.1 OCLP 2.40)

After updating to Sonoma 14.7.8 I have immediately done a Root Patching - working fine.

But an updater for Sequoia was loaded later in the background. Because I do not want to update to Sequoia then I changed the update settings and the updater for Sequoia was not displayed anymore.

Then I later discovered that Root Patching failed - see above screenshot.

Searching reddit and the net I came across earlier reports about this, but no real solution.

I do not see any installer in the application folder and OCLP 2.40 does not find any installer when trying t create an installer using "existing installer".

Searching my harddisk for "Sequoia" the only thing a find is an older com.apple.sequoia.asset.plist file from the day when I created an Sequoia install stick for another computer.

How can I get rid of this issue ?

Is EFI Update possible to do later?

I have a Macbook Pro 11,1 (MBP 13" - 2013 with retina display), which is used by my father for simple tasks. It was working with Ventura for a long time and later I've updated it to 15.6.1. Somehow the computer is slower than my expectation, even though the device has 16 GB RAM unda 512 GB SSD. I have performed the root patches maybe 3 times.

While I was checking it with SilentKnight, I realized the firmware version is older than the most actual one:

Mac model MacBookPro11,1

EFI version found 432.60.3.0.0

expected 478.0.0.0.0

❌ Need to update EFI firmware.

I don't know why I missed this, because I updated it before to highest version, but I cannot remember in detail.

Long story short: Is there any way of upgrading the firmware without installing High Sierra once more? I always carry my OCLP harddrive with me, but this time I have no stick or HD to install this. Or do you have any recommendation for the OCLP settings?

Installing Linux after installing Sequioa (early 2015 MacBook Pro)

I managed to successfully install Sequioa on my 2015 MacBook Pro (which is running so well atm!), but was really wanting to also install Linux Ubuntu to be able to dual boot. I've installed Linux before but this was before my Mac had OCLP installed and am just scaredI might mess it up! I already have Ubuntu on a bootable usb but its just a matter of installing it correctly, will grub overwrite the existing EFI via OCLP? Any helps appreciated!

Photos Not Rendering in Grid

Photos Not Rendering in Grid

Hi folks! I’m unsure if this is a bug in legacy patcher or just a byproduct of using Photos in new OS on an older MacBook Pro.

Device: 13” Early 2015 Sequoia 15.6 OCLP 2.4.0

As you can see in the image, the previews in grid view don’t always render correctly. This ‘glitch’ obly happens with my professional photos that I’ve loaded to the cloud for access on all my devices. And it’s only present as an issue on my MBP.

iCloud web and iPhone have no issues.

When I open the photo to full view, it takes a while to load, but the image is clear.

Is this due to old MBP and new OS and lack of resources? Or is it some other bug in OCLP that might be causing it?

It’s somewhat immaterial as I only use the MBP for loading and managing my gallery.

Just thought I’d ask in case others have a similar issue. Thanks in advance!

Can someone advise how to revert back without deleting everything?

Question about Mid 2010 Mini

Question about Mid 2010 Mini

I picked up a used Mini, Mid 2010, 4GB Ram, 320 GB HDD and 256GB Nvidia Graphics, and a Intel Core 2 Duo processor

The last supported macOS for this machine is Bug Sur. I have upgraded the SSD to a 256GB for now.

I have a couple of questions which I’d be grateful if someone can help me

  1. OLCP a good idea, for this? This Mac doesn’t have Metal enabled graphics. If this is the way to go, please suggest which version I should go for? Big Sur works surprisingly well, even with just 4GB RAM. My only concern is lack of modern web browser! If I could somehow get the latest browser (any) working I would not mind staying on Big Sur
  2. Is 16GB Ram worth it for this machine? I was also curious if a 4+8GB configuration would work or not? If anyone is using this config please let me know if it works?
  3. I’d like to know what are you guys using the old Mac for?
  4. In the image, is there something wrong in the highlighted area? I noticed this when upgrading the SSD. Pretty sure I did not do that.

As to why I’m asking here rather than in the Mac community, I believer people here have experienced both worlds and should be in a better position to answer.

Thanks
