Question about partitioning SSD

I have 2TB wd_black SSD that I'd like to partition into two 1TB partitions, one for Windows 11 and one for Mac OS High Sierra.

When I'm partitioning the SSD in Disk Utility it's a bit confusing what's going on. I formatted the disk first as APFS with GUID partition mapping and it already partitioned the disk into two partitions but both are showing the size of 2TB. And when I go to partition this disk it only allows me to partition one of them. The other one is showing as the hard drive I renamed it when I formatted it and the other is "APFS Physical Store disk3s2".

So should I just disregard this and just partition the other partition into two 1TB disks and not worry about the computer thinking that there's some extra 2TB "ghost partition" or am I doing something wrong here? Also is there anything else I should take into consideration about formatting and partitioning this disk so it's compatible with OpenCore?

These are just "extra" OS's that I'm installing on my Mac pro 5,1 for projects. I already have on this computer installed on one partitioned SSD both Monterey and Windows 10 which work fine.

How to reset back to factory OS with OCLP installed?

Hi, last time I posted on here I was asking a stupid question about if OCLP transferred across to a newer mac and thanks for the clarification! However today I have gotten a new MacBook pro aswell, so that means wiping my old one (which has OCLP on it) so my father (currently has a 2013 mbp, my old ones a 2017 mbp) can upgrade his, he has said he'll try base OS as not tech savvy like me. So the question is how can i reset back to factory? Dont care about losing data locally since I transferred all i need onto new already. TIA!

Need some advice from recent post

Hi everyone I recently posted about the error with root patching when trying to install sequoia. I realized my disc was partitioned so all hope was not lost I still have the other part of my disc which is still OS Monterey.

Now my question here is would it be a good idea to try to install a later version than Monterey but previous to sequoia since it didn’t work out with sequoia. And if so would I be able to do so on the partition that I was trying to install sequoia on? Or maybe just delete the partition and start fresh? Sorry I didn’t use the search function because this is such a specific situation and I have many questions but thanks for all your responses and patience. 🙏🏻

Trying to take a late 2013 Mac Pro from Monterey --> Sonoma

Trying to take a late 2013 Mac Pro from Monterey --> Sonoma

SOS

Trying to upgrade my late 2013 Mac Pro (with Monterey) to Sonoma via OCLP. I’m not the tech savviest but I’m fairly resourceful and can follow instructions, or so I thought.

I was using this guide:

https://blog.greggant.com/posts/2023/01/23/opencore-legacy-patcher-quick-instructions.html

I got to the post install step and did everything I was prompted to yet Chrome and Slack apps are not working - getting the red screen that makes the whole computer freeze up. Most other apps appear to be working.

It’s frustrating because I read all the directions and was certain my computer was compatible. I checked all of my hardware specs against the known issues/incompatibilities listed for OCLP and the different OSs. I selected Sonoma instead of Ventura because I didn’t want to have to do this process again so soon when support for Ventura inevitably expires and instead of Sequoia figuring since Sonoma had been around longer, that more issues would have been resolved..

I’ve restarted my computer and run the post install root patch several times each. I’ve tried to revert root patches. Still no luck.

Someone on a misc thread recommended rebooting in recovery mode and using first aid repair. Tried that, didn’t change anything.

I tried to install Monterey (to start over fresh or try Ventura instead) but got the preflight error 21 message.

Any advice or suggestions?

PSA: If you're using an Intel iGPU based Mac with Chrome/Chromium based browser, enable these settings (YMMV).

Go to chrome://flags

GPU Rasterization: Enabled

Accelerated 2D Canvas: Enabled

Zero-copy Rasterizer: Enabled

Parallel downloading: Enabled

Verify whether these settings are working in chrome://gpu

These settings make web browsing much faster especially the zero-copy one. Safari feels slow and ancient now.

MacBook Pro mid-2012 running Monterey via OCLP – worth upgrading to Sequoia for music production?

Hey everyone! I've got a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) that I've upgraded and patched to keep it alive:

- **CPU:** 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 (dual-core)
- **RAM:** 12 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- **GPU:** Intel HD Graphics 4000
- **Storage:** 500 GB SSD
- **OS:** macOS Monterey 12.7.4 via OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP)

It's been running really well, and I primarily use it for **music production** – mainly Ableton Live.

I've been wondering whether it's worth upgrading to **Sequoia (or Ventura/Sonoma)** through OCLP. I know the dual-core i5 avoids the known issue where OCLP disables extra CPU cores on Sequoia, but I still have concerns about stability – especially since Sequoia support in OCLP is still actively in development.

For casual use I'd probably just go for it, but since I rely on this machine for **audio production**, stability is non-negotiable. Dropouts, glitches, or random crashes mid-session are just not an option.

**My questions:**
- Has anyone with this exact model (MBP 13-inch Mid 2012, i5, Intel HD 4000) run Sequoia, Sonoma, or Ventura via OCLP?
- How does Ableton Live perform compared to Monterey?
- Any stability issues, audio glitches, or plugin compatibility problems?
- Is there a "sweet spot" version (like Ventura) that works better than others on this hardware?

Thanks in advance – any first-hand experience is gold here! 🙏

Problems with internet while recovering the drivers

A while ago I tried installing sequoia on a 2010 Macbook pro and it was ok, then I gave it to a friend and he tried to fix it. Months later I took it back and now its totally bricked, but I managed to get to the "Reinstall Sequoia" recovery page but it doesnt want to connect to the wifi or ethernet.

Is there a driver that i can download trough the pen drive or something?

PSA: Be aware of Apple ID issues if you're using OCLP with MBP 2017

It seems to be a universal issue - if you search for "Apple ID/Apple Account" in this sub, almost every post you'll find is about Apple ID login issues on 2017 Macbook Pros.

I've had this happen to me too - after a couple of months, i was prompted to reenter my password in the Settings app to log back in to my Apple Account. After typing the password and confirming, the login page got stuck or some other weird issues kept occurring.

I've thankfully managed to fix that by rebooting a couple of times, or just waiting it out - one time the issue has fixed itself after a day or two. To be fair, I'm not really using my Macbook for professional work, so it was not that big of an inconvenience, but I realize how big of a headache it could be if accessing Apple services is crucial to your work.

If you have a 2017 Macbook Pro, don't be discouraged to update it with OCLP - it's still the best thing that happened to my machine, like ever. It's still a very good piece of hardware, and you can breathe new life into it.

macOS Sequioa 15.5.7 on my Macbook Air 2017 with opencore Legacy Pather 2.4.1 and upgrade to 15.7.7 than used 3.0.0 Nightly is working.

macOS Sequioa 15.7.7 on My Macbook Air 2017

  1. use gibMacOS-master to download what you need macOS version on your Mac. my suggestion is macOS sequioa 15.5.7.
  2. you can see https://support.apple.com/en-us/101578 how to create bootable USB SSD for install macOS on your Mac.
  3. use opencore legacy Patcher 2.4.1 lastversion for install to your old mac with intel CPU.
  4. when install down the opencore legacy patcher will auto update to 2.5.0 nightly version.
  5. and remember do post-install Root Patch and reboot your's mac.
  6. download the opencore legacy patcher 3.0 Nightly version for upgrade to 15.7.7.
  7. https://github.com/Computer-genius1/OCLP-3.0-Tahoe-Archive/releases/download/Public/OpenCore-Patcher.pkg.1.zip
  8. just use system performance --> system update check for upgrade to 15.7.7, maybe your's mac Wifi not working.
  9. when upgrade all down to do opencore Patcher 3.0.0 Nightly Post-install Root Patch and reboot your's mac.
  10. The wifi is working and all system performance is good.

Heads-up about EFI partition during updates.

Yesterday, when updating (not upgrading) to Sonoma 14.8.7, during the updating process, the OCLP EFI partition got affected, and would not boot anymore on the 2nd to last restart that leads to using the Mac briefly without root patches applied (that's when they get applied). In previous updates within Sonoma the entire updating process completed without issue.

Conveniently, I have a native Mojave install (last OS native to my Mac) on a different internal drive, so booted into that, and reinstalled the OCLP boot partition on the relevant drive for the Sonoma OS, and it booted again correctly, and finished the update, and worked normally thereafter (this is an amazing program).

First time this has happened, so wanted to pass that on.

So, the need to re-install the EFI partition is possible during updates, so best have a bootable OCLP USB flash drive or other alternate bootable external option handy if you don't have a 2nd internal OS installed.

Sequoia 15.7.7 running slow on iMac 17.1

Sequoia 15.7.7 running slow on iMac 17.1

A few days ago, I successfully installed Sequoia 15.7.7 using OCLP. However, it’s running slowly. Adobe programs never work properly—they’re literally lagging. Illustrator is performing incredibly poorly. Even Launchpad doesn’t have the smooth animations it should. What do you think the problem is? And yes, I’ve applied the rootpatch a few times. Sometimes the top bar even turns red.

Late 2011 A1278 MacBook Pro on sequoia!

Late 2011 A1278 MacBook Pro on sequoia!

Saw this MacBook for $20 on eBay (untested) so I immediately took the 50/50 gamble and hit the jackpot! Swapped in an SSD and put 12GB of delicious RAM. Installed bigsur and it was surprisingly very choppy and slow. I had doubts with sequoia but took the chance anyways. Somehow, sequoia outperforms Big Sur. It runs extremely well, all for $20.

PS; In the background is my 2017 21.5in iMac, also running sequoia via OCLP. Never thought to post it here tho

Installed windows using OCLP guide but stuck on this boot screen.

I attempted to install win 10 on my 2011 17" MBP 8,x using the oclp UEFI boot guide and I’ve reached this point where I just see the windows logo and nothing happens. Anyone know the issue? Is it worth deleting the partition and going through the whole process again?

iMac Late 2013 and It actually Running kinda Smooth??? (SSD + 16GB RAM)

iMac Late 2013 and It actually Running kinda Smooth??? (SSD + 16GB RAM)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share the results of my recent upgrade project. I've successfully brought my Late 2013 21.5" iMac up to date using OpenCore Legacy
Patcher.

It was quite a bit of work, especially since upgrading the RAM on the 21.5-inch model requires removing the entire logic board, but the effort completely paid
off:
• Memory: Upgraded from 8 GB to 16 GB RAM
• Storage: Replaced the old mechanical HDD with a
solid-state drive (SSD)
• OS: macOS 15.7.7 via OCLP

My previous root patch was from December 31, 2025. After installing the latest patches today, the performance improved significantly.

Everything runs incredibly smooth and feels very responsive now.
Big thanks to the developers behind OCLP for keeping these older machines running so well!

This is a friends MacBook Pro mid 2010 and I was going to put OCLP on it, but I’m not sure what macOS I should use because it has only got a hard drive and a 4 GB of ram which I will be upgrading for him at a later date. I just didn’t know what I could put it on for now to make it usable.

Hi everybody, I recently discovered OCLP, and finished a successful install of macos Sequoia 15.7.7 on an early 2015 mbp A1502, but I can't for the life of me get Airdrop to send files to my iPhone 17? Which is double weird because the mac can receive files no problem, but cannot send them? Is anyone else having this issue, and if so do we have any solutions? Is this one of those little quirks I get for using a laptop old enough to have seen Obama in office?
