Macbook Pro 2009 17" -nvram is not supported on this system

The original HD on the MBP 2009 crashed and I had replaced with an SSD and installed a few Linux distributions on it. They all run fine with no issues.

Recently I wanted to run MacOS, beyond El Capitan and tried Sierra (dosDude patcher) as well as Monterey (OCLP) . Both failed to boot darwin. Each of them were hanging in different places.

So I thought of installing `El Capitan` through USB and that did not go well (It will spend 10 minutes in the installer copying files and finally will say it cannot do it, when in fact it never copied any files.).

I finally managed to create an USB out of Snow Leopard DVD that came with the MBP. I installed SL fine with with that USB. The SL installer did warn me that it cannot write the startup disk information at the end of copying, but I managed to boot it with the Mac Boot picker (using the Option key)

When I manually ran `bless --info` on the booted SnowLeopard it reported that

Could not find IODeviceTree:/options Cant's access "efi-boot-device" NVRAM variable % nvram -p nvram: nvram is not supported on this system.

While running OCLP, I had used the option `Reset NVRAM` couple of times. I am not sure if that had messed up system. Any help of getting the nvram populated would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time in advance

What OS should I run on my late 2013 Macbook Pro?

It is currently running 11.7.11, but I find most apps don't work on that OS. I would like to use this Macbook for general school work, web browsing, photo viewing, and possibly photo editing through apps like light room classic.

My specs are:

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
  • 2.6GHz Dual Core Intel Core i5
  • 8gb 1600mhz DDR3 Ram
  • 512GB SSD(?)
  • Intel Iris 1536 MB

Would Sonoma Work Well?

Would Sonoma Work Well?

I love the snapping of Ventura. It’s really fast and usable. It feels like my MacBook running Tahoe. I understand that Sonoma has higher metal requirements or that would be a major effect on the day to day performance? Maybe if I add 16 more GBs of Ram?

Post-install root patches failing and safe mode broken: Mac Pro 5,1 – macOS Sequoia – Sapphire Pulse RX580

A few things to establish context:

  • The card is known working, displays and functions in High Sierra properly, and is using a proper dual mini 6 pin to 8 pin power cable.
  • System firmware version is newest available (144.0.0.0.0).
  • "Enable GOP" was selected when creating OCLP installer, boot screen visible.
  • In system report under Sequoia, the card displays as only having 7MB VRAM which is obviously incorrect. Likely a driver issue.
  • OCLP post-install root patches that include polaris driver fail exactly like what appears in this post.
  • Attempting to boot into safe mode to install the root patches results in a boot hang at 1/3 progress. Verbose mode attributes the hang to "handle_revert_to_snapshot".

I've been able to troubleshoot my way to this point thus far, but I'm just hitting a wall and can't seem to find a solution. Appreciate any insight or help 🙏

Wireless Problem / Bug

Hello everyone,

I keep having the following problem, and I don't know exactly what's causing it.

A few months ago, I installed MACOSX Sequoia with OCLP on my MacPro 5.1.
(Metal Graphic Card, additional RAM, Bluetooth Dongle, Factoy Wireless Module,...)

I installed the OCLP root patches after the installation and everything worked. Then I installed Windows 11 on a second hard drive. Everything worked. Then at some point, the Wi-Fi stopped working in Windows. So I booted back into MacOSX, where the Wi-Fi always worked. I ran the root patches again and everything worked again. After a few weeks, I had to repeat the process because every few weeks the Wi-Fi (under Windows) just stop working, even if it finds the SSID, but stops connecting. For the past 2 days, the Wi-Fi has not been working under either operating system. The Wi-Fi shows all surrounding SSIDs including my network, but after a few seconds it disappears, then reappears, then disappears again. I can't connect under Windows or MACOSX.

What could be the cause? As far as I know, OCLP has not had any updates.

I had exactly the same problem as described above a few months ago and eventually had to reinstall both operating systems. What could be the cause?

2010 MP stuck in update

I have a 2010 MP that's been running OCLP for a few year. Yesterday it tried ti install a Tahoe update and got stuck. I know it can take hours so I left it running all night. Now 10 hours later it's still at that same spot.

I tried to restart in safe mode but holding the shift key isn't working. I've tried holding the shift key after the chime, before the chime but it just keeps cycling.

Any ideas before I am forced to wipe SSD and start from scratch?

Suggestion for buying an old Intel MBP

Hi, I have a question for you. Long story short, I have a Early 2008 MBP which is working just fine with Sonoma, tho slowish and a bit buggy with Office which I need mandatory. So my idea was continuing to use my 2007 Acer Extensa with Windows 10 LTSC for that until I would have upgraded that machine for a M1 MBA, or waiting until newer ones would have became cheaper. Anyway, the last Office 365 update broke the suite on my OS and given it’s an old version with just some security fixes done I strongly doubt it will be fixed. My uncle, however wants to sell his Mid 2012 15’ non-retina MBP, I would like to know if it’s a bug free machine or just an incremental update over my 2008 one.

OCLP Tahoe

OCLP Tahoe team, how's it going? I have a 2017 21.5-inch 4K iMac running Ventura, and I'm looking to upgrade to 32MB of RAM (I currently have 16MB) and install OCLP Tahoe.

Macbook Pro 2015 With Bootcamp/Win11 -> OCLP Sequoia/Win11?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) / Processor: 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i7 / Memory: 16GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 / Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536MB / SSD Updated to Samsung 980 Pro 1TB

What are the catches/downsides of installing OCLP + Sequoia on a Macbook Pro 2015 currently running Monterey and Bootcamp/Win11?

I want to keep the Windows 11 bootcamp set up in place, just update the MACOS side.

What I've read so far is:

- I won't be able to use the Bootcamp control panel on ether OS to select "Boot to MacOS/Windows), I'd have to hold option on start up;

However others seems to have had issues losing the EFI partition during the OCLP/MacOS installation and found themselves in a mess.

Can anyone offer their recent experience/advice for me and others considering this?

iMac 13,2 performance on Sequoia: how bad is it?

I currently do not have an SSD on hand for my iMac13,2 (i5-3470, 8gb DDR3, 1tb original HDD), and I was wondering how good the performance was on Sequoia.
I know it won't be fast, but I wanted to know if it was still good enough for daily use and (very) light gaming like TF2, HL2, etc.
How does no AVX2 affect it?

Tahoe 26 in mbp 19 13"

Tahoe 26 in mbp 19 13"

I have an macbook pro 2019 13inch 4 thunderbolt ports A1989(and currently using macOS 15.7.3 (24G419))... my question here is how can I download, install, run and use macOS Tahoe 26 one way or another?

I am aware of potential risks and I'm willing to try it anyway. Just to clarify this mac is not my primary computer so I can play with it and also if something goes bad I can always just reinstall the os and go back to an older one. Any help/suggestion/advise is helpful.

We have a macbook (2017 12" Macbook Pro (Macbook10,1)) that gets used by family for everyday browsing, and a few light applications like Excel, nothing intensive.

What's the latest MacOS that will run reasonably under OCLP? Specs below. All advise is welcome.

Will OpenCore install USB sticks work dual-duty as regular *supported* installers?

What I mean by this is, if I create a USB installer and patch it with OpenCore (to upgrade my "unsupported" Macs), can I use the same stick as a regular MacOS installer to do supported upgrades? If so, I assume I'd just use the MacOS Installer image I see on boot, and not go through the EFI Boot method as I do with an unsupported upgrade?

Clicking “Install macOS” does nothing

Clicking “Install macOS” does nothing

I am trying to install macOS Sonoma on my Macbook Pro9,1, and after selecting a language I see the recovery screen with restore, install, safari, disk utility. I was able to open disk utility to format my SSD, but when i select “install macOS Sonoma”, nothing happens. I tried resetting NVRAM, SMC, rebuilding Opencore. Anybody know how to fix this?

Help needed!

I installed a new macOS Sonoma version on my old iMac (2013) using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Initially, everything seemed fine; the installation completed successfully, and the Mac restarted with a progress bar displayed. However, this disappeared after a while and now gets stuck at about a third of the way through. After a few hours, the screen goes black, and I have to restart everything. Can anyone help me and tell me what I can do? Thank you in advance!

Anyone upgraded one of these? I've not done this before!

I'm nervous as I've not used OCLP before. I wanna upgrade my iMac but I don't want to go too far and make it unusable! I'm thinking from looking at other resources on the net that Monterey is the sweet spot? Or has anyone else gone newer without issues? Sorry is this is a newb question!
