Troubleshooting macOS Catalina Installer Boot Failure
Image
Guide: If you're encountering issues reaching the installer page for macOS Catalina despite successful installations of previous macOS versions like High Sierra or Mojave, follow these troubleshooting steps to address the problem: 1. Verify USB Installer Integrity: Ensure that your macOS Catalina installer USB drive is created correctly using a genuine macOS Catalina image and tools like createinstallmedia or gibMacOS. Double-check that the USB drive is formatted appropriately (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or APFS) and has the necessary EFI partition for booting. 2. USB Port and Drive Compatibility: Test different USB ports on your computer to rule out any compatibility issues with specific ports. Try using a different USB drive if possible, as some drives may not be compatible with macOS booting requirements. 3. Boot Flags and Bootloader Configuration: Review the boot flags you've added, such as npci=0x3000, and experiment with alternative flags or combinations to see if they r...

Hi guys, I’ve had a working 10.15.7 Catalina install for a couple years on a 3.7Ghz Core i9 10900k, (and I still want to stay in Catalina, I don’t want to update OS yet), done with OpenCore 0.6.9 (which I haven’t updated it yet either as everything was working) Yesterday when I Shutted down, it seems like somehow a system update started, even if I have updates OFF. Anyway the apple and the progress bar appeared, was taking way too long so I realised it might be updating, and I decided to... Read more Author: basuruza [► Source]

stuck with black screen after Catalina update

I tried updating to Catalina without tidying up the EFI folder, and assuming I had the most-recent-back-then version of Clover, but I have the 2.4 the still-Mojave-named boot from Clover launches the Apple logo, and the load animation goes all the way and gives me hope, but then moves on to a black screen. Same happens when launching recovery installs from Clover. I didn't keep my bootable USB key, so for now I'm stuck with black screens and not being able to run a terminal or post-intall... I have Catalina (10.15.7) up-and-running with what seems to have the processor, disks, memory and GPU correctly identified / working (using UniBeast10.3.0 for Catalina)...However no Wi-Fi connectivity unfortunately. I am running a Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter. I saw some old posts that suggested to download the following kexts:- OS-X-Fake-PCI-ID-master which when I unzip, has BroadcomWifiInjector.kext along with several other that are greyed out. Shouldn't MultiBeast... Read more Author: ken.collinsmontreal [► Source]

In MacOS hell - need more current version of TimeMachine restore

After years of flawless operation my hack hit a land mine this weekend. Been on Catalina with APFS booting a 5 year old Samsung 840 SSD. It got very flaky and unreliable on Saturday. Clover boots but shows no bootable drives. Finally decided to just restore time machine of the drive and re-clover a new drive. Now I find (of course) the 2014 version of Time Machine restore that I'm using from the Tonymac Mojave install thumbdrive doesn't know my Catalina backups are apparently split into... Hi, Got an Asus Z270WS with Opencore 0.8 and a Highpoint SSD7204 that works with the Windows side of things but cant get the driver to recognize the card. At bootup each of the 4 nvme drives comes up but I choose to ignore them. Wonder what I have to do to get it working? Noticed that the 1.1.25 highpointnvme kext is loaded in kextstat. Maybe its the DSDT? Thanks Author: moheban79 [► Source]
