Successfully installed MacOs Sequoia on iMac 15,1 5K late 2014 using 2.4.1.

It was not very difficult process but I did get stuck at one point so for those still thinking about it, it may help later.

Create a Backup of all of your files. This will wipe your mac.

  1. Downloaded Sequoia installer using OCLP on Big Sur.

  2. This is important. Sometimes you get an error when you select the disk in installer. So instead of building installer using OCLP application, I used createinstallmedia command in terminal using instructions by Apple for Sequoia.

  3. Once you are sure installer is continuing properly copying the files. Cancel it. Then use disk utility to erase the disk.

  4. Once installed, it will restart and for now everything will get stuck, lag, stutter and long wait times. Do not worry, just be patient with it.

  5. Once OS boots, it will be very slow and laggy. Be patient and give it some time to take your commands. Especially Safari will be non responsive at first.

  6. Download OCLP app, and run it. Now select post install patch, it will take some time aroubd 15-20 minutes, then restart. Still you will get some lag but better.

  7. Once again run OCLP when it boots, and install patch on disk (on fusion drive, install it on hard drive, not SSD). Restart after disconnecting USB. It will boot properly. You can select to no show boot options in OCLP settings before patching.

  8. Use the mac as you do, browse, open Apps, let it build cache. After two or three restarts. It will become smooth.

To my surprise, iMac 5K 15,1 is running Sequoia very well and it feels slightly faster from Big Sur. Apple should have at least allowed updates up to 12 or 13 but well now we have our ways.

Let the patch run in background, and do not turn off its notifications.

So far there are some bugs but mostly due to lack of hardware support. One I found is when safari asks for passkey, it crashes. So use chrome or Firefox.
