Anyone running ESXi 5.1 on an Xserve? #Hackintosh
Image
Since I found the Unlocker last week, I've been trying to figure out how I want to add an Apple ESXi 5.1 host to my lab. I recently purchased a late 2012 Mac Mini that I'm using as an HTPC and I can't decide if I want to use it as an ESXi host, then getting an older Mini to use as an HTPC. I have the i7 Mini (4 cores) and running a few VMs on it would really allow me to use its power instead of it being idle most of the time. Another option is getting another <$150 Dell server (2 x Xeon L5420 quad cores, already have 2) to use with Unlocker as a dedicated OS X ESXi host. I can't use one of those for OS X now because they're used to study for the VCP exam, which means I have to use vCenter Server. Unlocker doesn't work on hosts added to a vCenter Server. Another option is getting a 2008/2009 Apple Xserve. I've been doing a ton of Googling this weekend and it seems that there really aren't any major issues running ESXi 5.1 on the 2008 or 2009 Xserve. GeForce GTX TITAN works in MacPro #Hackintosh
Image
Netkas again did it !! SOURCE Quote I have written a special rom for GTX Titan, which allows it to work in OSX 10.7.5 and 10.8.3. It supports both 32-bit MacPro 1,1/2,1 and 64-bit MacPro 3,1+. Since it involves several low-level hacks, hackint0sh user won’t be able to get it to work, sorry. I’ll upload the rom after I fix 5 GT/s issue, so far it runs at 2.5 GT/s. source

Simple mount command refused + QNAP Mediabox Problem #Hackintosh
Hello, I have two questions. 1) So I am making a script to mount my external shares. One share is the NAS and one is an USB disk on the router with the Samba capability. The script is a simple one: do shell script "mount -t smbfs //login:pass@<path to NAS> /<path to mount folder>" Executing the above on the NAS works great. Executing it on the USB disk (which is actually a samba share) doesn't work. I checked like 20 times for mistakes, but I see none. It says "No such file or directory" However, when I go to the Finder, "Connect to Server", and type in smb://router, it connects without a question. Pulls the info from the keychain also. Why is one Samba share working (NAS) and the other doesn't (router). 2) I turned on samba sharing on OSX, and I can access the shares from other windows computers correctly and also log into shares properly. However, I own a QNAP NMP-1000P media player, and it won't access the shares properly, no mat...
"Hide Partition" option in Chameleob is not working for me #Hackintosh
Image
Hi folks, Here is my device list: diskutil list output (the screenshot above is slightly outdated cause I renamed "Windows NTFS" to "WindowsNEW" but this is not the point): in the /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist I put the following lines: <key>Hide Partition</key> <string>hd(1,1) hd(1,2) hd(2,3) hd(2,2)</string> However chameleon is still showing me all the partitions. I've tried to mess up with this parameters by specifying volume names and specifying only one disk/partition. The only partition that I was able to hide was hd(2,3) Please point me what I am doing wrong... source

Applescript + Keychain password #Hackintosh
Hello everyone, I searched myself crazy on the net, reading the man page about security(1) and being quite a beginner, can't really pinpoint how to do this. I want to mount my NAS drive to a folder: a movies folder on the NAS to my Movies folder on the OSX drive in the Users/Kosta. It asks for the password in the Terminal when I script that. I can however type in the password in text and save the app as run only (Option 1). However, I would prefer to learn how to script a keychain password into the Applescript, without it really showing. I mean, not even sure if it makes sense, security-wise… should I just save the app as run only, or should I even bother with entering the keychain access, as in, if it's even more secure? Any help would be appreciated! source

[DEAL] Powermac G5s for $100 Shipped! #Hackintosh
I'm putting this here because let's face it, we're the ones buying up G5s like there's no tomorrow! Mac Of All Trades is selling WORKING G5s for $69+shipping, which for me works out to be $102 shipped. They are in good condition ("no significant cosmetic defects"), and have all the original components if you want to re-use anything. They will also be compatible with the front ATX conversion cables from BlackCH and Alohacab. Here's the link, I thought someone might find it useful: http://www.macofallt...516-sp-j03d.htm Heck, at that price you can probably get about $150 locally (at least on my Craigslist I haven't seen a working G5 under $150 in months) and end up with a free G5 case once you're done! source
PowerMac G5 TITAN #Hackintosh
Image
Hi, Let me introduce my build. (already shown @ tonymacx86.com) It's a PowerMac G5 late 2004 (I suppose) ; I'm using BlackCH Front panel kit . Using the following hardware : - Intel i7 3770 - GTX TITAN (Zotac) - AsRock Z77 Pro 4-M - Corsair Dominator Platinum 1600 (16GB : 8x2) - OCZ Agility 3 (120 GB) - WD Caviar Green 15-EARS (1,5TB x 2) - LG BR Combo reader/writer - LEPA G750-MAS - Bluetooth dongle - D-link DWA-127 Wireless N150 - Scythe Mugen 2 revB (CPU Cooler) - Noctua PC NF-P14 FLX 140 mm (PSU Fan Cooler) I went through an easy-way, using Dremel to cut out the rear panel, just enough to get to the different plugs and stick the motherboard with the original G5 stands off. source
Well, I got an iMac. #Hackintosh
Image
I finally did it. I got an iMac. Let me explain. Since 2009, I have only had hackintosh desktops. Of course, I've also owned an iBook, MacBook, two MacBook Pros, three iPads, four iPods and three iPhones in that time, but as far as desktops go, I've always stuck with building hackintoshes. Obviously like many others, the performance/cost ratio has always been so appealing, but I also love to build and mod, so it was the perfect fit. Currently I have a dual-core hackintosh in a Mac Pro case, and it looks like a beast, but it's hard to move. I've had a couple of issues with it (sleep, USB weirdness, video weirdness) but nothing that was unfixable if I gave it the chance. I also have started giving photoshop lessons locally, and although I've had plenty of compliments (and conversations) about my Mac Pro hack, I HATE transporting it, along with my monitor and speakers (for video presentations). More recently, I have also had issues with my 5770 video card. Sometimes if...
Phunczz's G5 Homage Project #Hackintosh
Image
So I got a hold on a pretty complete and OK state PowerMac G5 case, without the logic board and no PSU, although the PSU casing is present. I actually didn't know what to do with it when I bought it, all I knew is wanted to do a project with a Mac Pro or PowerMac G5 for a very long time. Here are some photos: In the foto's above I removed the optical drive since I'll probably not use it or replace it with a SATA one, it's just not a priority at all. It also has no physical damage except some scratches. I don't know if I'll leave it like that or I'll treat it with a new coat of anodising, it's also one of the last things on my mind. The plan now is to make it into a NAS, since I need lots of room for disks and this case can supply me with that space. I want to get about 8 hard drives in there as a starting point in the same way as another modder did. But I'm contemplating on using the Mac Pro hard drive brackets with a custom-built system to hang ...

I irrationally want a Mac mini #Hackintosh
Hi. I have around €1200 of extra money on the side and thought I'd get a real Apple desktop as soon as it'd happen to me. The thing is my MacBook Pro is doing fine and my Hackintosh too. Plus my hackintosh has the plus sides of having a Blu-ray burner and a decent graphics card. The thing is, it's now 3 years old, and that was the age of my other computers when they "died". Plus, a SATA port fell off the motherboard last week. I was thinking of getting an i7 Mac mini as well as an OWC Data Doubler and a 256 GB Samsung 840 or Crucial M4 SSD to setup a DIY Fusion Drive (Apple's option here in France only gives you a 128 GB SSD for almost the price of a 512 GB one). The things that appeal me so much are the i7 processor and the USB 3 ports Am I crazy, just a geek or fanboy? Should I get one or put the money on the side and get a new hack once it dies? Thanks for your advice. source
Late 2012 Mac Mini HTPC -> Mac Mini ESXi Host-- need ideas.. #Hackintosh
My apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I recently purchased a late 2012 Mac Mini for use as a server/HTPC (Plex Media Server & Player). It is currently hooked up to my living room TV. Since Plex Media Server can't be ran as a daemon, I've been trying to figure out a way to setup the Mini so that it is running all the time. I was hoping that virtualizing OS X on one of my Dell servers would be the answer, but since I can't use vCenter with hosts that have been patched with the Unlocker, that isn't an option. Now I'm considering installing ESXi on the Mac Mini so that I could run a few OS X virtual machines for various ideas I have. Problem with that is I lose HTPC functionality with it running ESXi. The Mac Mini replaced an Apple TV 3 that was in the living room, which I still have. I obviously can't remote desktop from the ATV3 nor can I install the Plex App on it so that I could access the Plex Media Server VM that I'll setup. I guess I could buy R...

Help me figure out wiring diagram? #Hackintosh
Image
Ok, I'm going to show just how much I DONT know about electronics here. I bought some momentary switches a couple of years ago, forgot about them, and just found them again. I'm thinking of putting one in another case, but I can't figure out wiring. Can someone take a look? I know that L1 and L2 would go to the PWR LED on the motherboard, but would PWR switch simply go either from 1/2 - 3/4, or 1-2 / 3-4?? Side note: these are a PERFECT fit for the G5 case (diameter is exact), but so far I have only found them in blue... Thanks!! source
