Reset CMOS in BIOS after updating on macOS Catalina 10.15.4
Image
I used macOS Catalina 10.15.2 and did not experience any problems resetting CMOS. Then I upgraded to 10.15.4, and after each shutdown or reboot of my hackintosh, I get an error: The system has POSTed in safe mode. This may be due to the previous POST attempt failing because of system instability, or if the power button was held in to force the system off. If the system failed to POST after you made changes to UEFI settings, you may wish to revert to stable settings to prevent POST failure. [OpenCore] [Catalina] Can't access my BIOS anymore
Image
Hi! After performing a successful OpenCore based hackintosh installation on my desktop PC I just can't access my BIOS anymore. After pressing F2/Del I get a frozen black screen and need to force shutdown to exit it. I tried resetting the CMOS, removing the CMOS battery but neither method worked. My Catalina Hackintosh is running very fine, what makes everything even more weird. What can I do to get my BIOS back? Any help will be very appreciated! Compatible Wifi card causing slow BIOS and overall boot?
Image
Not really sure what's causing this but I don't think it's necessarily an issue with the software side of things (clover, kexts, settings, etc.)About every two to three weeks, my PC will take a long time to even get to the clover boot screen. When I try to boot into the motherboard's BIOS settings, everything in it will be really laggy. It'll take a ~10 seconds for any key presses to register. Once I'm able to boot to the Mac OS, everything is running fine with the exception that bluetooth isn't detected (wifi still works). Boot time isn't affected by this, it's just getting to the point of selecting the MAC os that's an issue as well as bluetooth being disabled. The only solution to I've found is to clear the CMOS, change the BIOS settings to be compatible with MAC (enable XCHI hand-off, disable VT-D, etc.) and then everything runs perfect again (including bluetooth) for a while. I'll know the issue will start happening when my bluet...
Previously dual boot with Win10. Now boot missing. Help.
Image
I did a dual boot with windows 10 and managed to use clover manager to switch between OSes. After a while, I deleted the Hackintosh but held to clover manager to boot into Windows. I had to change the CMOS battery and thermal paste last week. After that, the laptop won't boot into Windows. The usual clover UI doesn't appear on boot. Instead greeted with "Operating system not found" message. And also I can't enter to Bios setup. I think it enters into Bios setup page but all I can see is a grey/black screen. I verified with live Linux USB that my SSD is healthy and can access the drives. Is there a way to fix the boot? Laptop - Dell XPS L502X. Bios resets only when shutting down from hackintosh drive
Image
Recently my motherboard died and I ended up buying a new (exactly same) motherboard and ever since, my hackintosh has been acting up. All the problems point to the hackintosh because every time I unplug the drive and use only keep the windows drive, the bios keeps its memory and windows works fine. Whenever I plug in the hackintosh drive and try to boot to it, the boot is slower and the bios gets wiped every time I shut down from macOS. I’ve already replaced the cmos battery and psu. But the problem persists. Any fixes? i7 4790 Gigabyte H97m-D3H RX 470(d) and Intel HD 4600 (running dual monitor setup) submitted by /u/microtruong [link] [comments] [► Source]

VirtualSMC RTC Read Error and Battery Discontinuity (AppleRTC I/O failure E00002C1)
Image
Hi, I'm a bit confused as to how I'm supposed to go about using VirtualSMC. I previously assumed it was simple as putting in the kext and forgetting about it, but now, being towards the latter-end of my hackintosh I started focusing on my startup logs and other minor issues. Most notably, I noticed I have rtc read failures on every boot. Using the rtcread tool provided by VSMC, I receive, "AppleRTC I/O failure E00002C1". Additionally, my battery percentage is very inconsistent (seems that every boot the capacity changes and the percentage in my menubar never matches that of other battery info softwares such as coconutbattery) And I think this likely is a result of RTC/CMOS and/or an improperly configured VirtualSMC kext. After reading through the documentation on the github repo for VirtualSMC, I see that there is a bunch of various options for keys to be inputted somewhere somehow. Although I can't seem to find any detailed/straightforward guides that go...
Strange preClover behaviour (Need to press any key to get to clover)
Image
I'm experiencing some strange boot behaviour since a few days. (Unfortunately I dont know what caused this as I'm always keeping kexts etc. up to date.) Before I get to the clover boot menu I have to press any key. Otherwise it will just stay there with a back square box overlaid to the BIOS boot screen. I already cleared CMOS but it did not change anything. If I put in a separate SSD with a Windows boot loader the "error" is gone so I'm quite sure it's a clover thing. Something else but I don't know if it's connected to that issue: 50% of the time I can't get to the FileVault password prompt. It just stays at the apple logo. BIOS Hell

Motherboard Model: GA-Z170X-UD5 TH CPU: Intel i7 6770 4.00 GHz GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB GAMING Install Method: Unibeast (back in 2016, using TonyMacx86's guide) After 3 years of a stable build (Sierra), I finally got the courage to dive in to install Windows 10 on a separate internal 250GB SSD so that I could get Thunderbolt working. I had to flash the BIOS to the latest firmware (F22g) to install the Thunderbolt driver. I succeeded in doing this, installed the Thunderbolt driver, and tested it on both my Windows 10 install and my Sierra install. It worked! :-) But then I hit a snag :-( ... my Nvidia web driver refused to turn on. I had to stop there as I was traveling for work. Now, keep in mind I had all my drives plugged in again and was able to choose which drive to boot from in Clover. Both Windows 10 and MacOS Sierra were working. I come home 2 weeks later and turn on the machine to see if I could figure out this Nvidia issue and suddenly, my machine can only ...
[Question] UEFI Catalina 10.15.1 USB installer and Install Catalina?
Image
Last few years I was always handling Hacktintosh problems myself (using all knowledge from the internet), but I'm stuck and I need your help/instructions. My config: • Intel Core i5 4670K Boxed • Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 o Realtek ALC892 audio chip • SSD Intenso 2.5" 120GB • Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 570 4GD5 Last week I decided to update from Catalina 10.15.0 to 10.15.1. Then I got the famous black screen (but still was able to login via Teamviewer) so I tried everything to fix it (with or without whatevergreen/Lilu different versions and combinations, using several boot args etc.). Nothing worked, so I decided to remove my SSD, hook it up to a real Mac, and format that thing to APFS removing everything on it to have a fresh start. Now, I created fresh USB sticks with Catalina 10.15.1 using Clover_v2.5k_r5098.pkg. Placed kext files in the mounted EFI, folder ‘Other’. I unplugged every USB (except mouse and keyboard) and all SATA and Windows SSD drives. I resetted my Cmos (bi...
Swapping PCI bus cause hackintosh failed booting
Image
Hey, I hope someone could help me out with this problem: I - please don't ask why - plugged my graphics card into a x8 PCI slot. Everything works fine, but when I try to switch to a x16 bus, my hackintosh denies booting. I have tried resetting my CMOS. But I can't even boot into -x or -f. It seems to hang on PCI configuration. Debugging the kexts also brings only rubbish on my screen. I've also tried to boot from my usb-install stick to reinstall the system. But this is also not possible with the card in the x16 bus. I think there is something like a cache where the PCI configuration is stored. But I can't locate it nor rebuild my kextcache. Any hints? submitted by /u/cb_max [link] [comments] [► Source]
semi success X58 Catalina + OpenCore/Duet
Image
To Begin i'm mostly making this post because i havent seen anyone else using old(now fully unsupported hardware on 10.15 yet, (especially using Opencore on a bios system) anyhow this is my first time fussing around with opencore, my first opinion is that it works better then clover(if you can fully set it up), BUT the level of info for it is severally lacking(especially for none bios systems, and doubly so for anything older then haswell) and it is way less user friendly then clover, main benefit is how easily macos boot under it and how well gpus seem to work as well(never been able to get more then 1 port working with the 480 on clover) Spec List Motherboard ASUS p6x58-e ws CPU w3680 Memory 24GBs(6x4GB ) GPU RX 480 Working USB 2.0 Firewire(afaik, it shows in ioreg so should work ) Dual 1Gig Ethernet(needed kext ) GPU(all outputs ) HDMI/DP audio Not Working Sleep(no clue how to fix ) restart/shutdown(hangs after logout and doesnt restart/turnoff, honestly a goo...
Lenovo ThinkPad E480 does not sleep properly
Image
When I put my E480 to sleep, it turns off for a few seconds (USB loses power, fan stops spinning, and the power button LED turns off), then it wakes up again automatically but not entirely. The display stays off. Just the power LED is back on, USB is powered, and the fan starts spinning. I can wake it up normally, but it isn't sleeping properly. Does anyone have an idea how I could fix this? I tried setting the hibernatemode to different values through terminal, without luck (enabling hibernation just causes some CMOS errors). system.log does not show any wake reason, so that's a dead end as well. Hardware: Intel Core i5 8250U Intel HD 620 8GB RAM Realtek R8111GUS Ethernet Conexant CX11852 Audio OpenCore folder DSDT IOReg (IOJones) submitted by /u/notiflux [link] [comments] [► Source]
Hackintosh won't display BIOS if I have a USB or SSD plugged in
Image
I've got my first build up and running and everything looks fantastic. The only issue I'm having is the BIOS still will not display if I have a hardrive plugged in. But if I unplug them then it will come up fine. Even plugging in a blank USB flash drive will stop bios from loading past the splash screen and only show black Do you have any ideas? Do you think this might cause issues down the line? Everything else including audio is working great so I don't want to mess anything up. This happened on my old machine too so I'm thinking it's a config issue or a ktext problem but I'm not sure which it could be. Unsupported CPU Panic Issue during High Sierra Install
Image
Hello my dear reddit community, this is my desperate call for help to fix the Unsupported CPU issue on my hackintosh. Problem: I keep getting stuck during the installation attempt of High Sierra with this panic message. It will stay like this for several minutes and will eventually turn into a white screen. My build: Gigabyte Z77 DS3H / Intel i7 3770k / Geforce 640 Current EFI Folder: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0i89lmwr9pqjk9u/AAB9SkAuDU8xBUIpTqjLRxwxa?dl=0 Current config.plist : https://www.dropbox.com/s/r445inkvkdc9xgm/config.plist?dl=0 Description: I haven't used my hackintosh in two years and needed to upgrade whatever osx was on there, so I followed the Tonymacx89 High Sierra installation guide and received several "installation failed" notifications. Eventually I managed to reach the start page of High Sierra but had graphic issues (only one resolution) which I tried to fix with Multibeast (which failed). Since then pretty much nothing worked anymor...
Recommended BiOS settings cause GPU to stop working?
Image
Working on this build for my husband: MB: Gigabyte x299 Designare EX CPU: Intel i9-9820x (Skylake refresh) GPU: Nvidia 660 Ti (this PC is not for gaming so it just needs a GPU for the displays, I happened to still have the old one from my personal build) It boots into Windows fine and all the hardware seems to be working. However, when I set up the BiOS following these guides: https://hackintosher.com/guides/guide-to-fresh-installing-macos-mojave-on-a-hackintosh-10-14/ (I primarily used this guide to set up this build since I had success with it updating my personal build) https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/how-to-build-your-own-imac-pro-successful-build-extended-guide.229353/ (the bios section only) and then save and reboot, the error LED for the GPU lights up and there's nothing on the display. I clear the BiOS settings via the CMOS reset to start over, Windows boots fine and the display is back. I boot to my Clover OSX install USB without adjusting the BiOS, it boots i...
Won't Boot, Out of Ideas
Image
Hey y'all- Got an old machine I built that booted a year ago, now won't boot up / stuck in boot loop. Out of ideas on what might be the cause & solution. Quick run down: It powers on, spins up, then the heatsink fan stops, then 4-5 seconds later entire system shuts off. Boot loop ensues. I removed a few PCI cards, the gfx card, the memory, the HDDs, the CMOS battery, but no dice. Any thoughts on what I should try next? I've had this issue on and off with the computer before but never been unable to solve. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks! submitted by /u/eighteesix [link] [comments] [► Source]
