SSD Drive Update Question: Explain Partitioning to a Noob (Idiot?)
Image
I have an Acer Nitro 5 that I use for both work and gaming, and like a lot. The only issue I've had is that the boot SSD is only 128GB, so all of my games end up in the 1TB SATA data drive which is a HDD. All good except that when I get into playing Total War, etc., the load times got to be atrocious. So I decided to switch the SATA to a SSD. I ordered a Samsung 870 QVO 2TB drive, and cloned by existing drive onto it with the free version of Macrium Reflect. I opened up the laptop today and swapped out the drives. It seems to have mostly worked fine, and there is a notable improvement in loading times. Only two issues: It mounted as a G drive instead of the D drive it had previously been. This doesn't seem to be an issue so far; I just pointed Steam to the Library folder and everything looks like it has come back. I'm not worried about this unless someone tells me I should be. I realized that I cloned a 1TB drive onto a 2TB drive - so the 2TB drive now apparently conta...

OpenCore stuck in a boot loop during macOS install on an SSD, but not on a HDD.
Image
For some very odd reason, macOS continuously restarts when I install it on an SSD. However when I install it on a hard drive it works perfectly fine. I’m currently using an HP 8300 to install this. Even if I clear the NVRAM or try to reinstall I still get the same result. I’ve never had this issue before (as I’ve done it in the past before). Any help? submitted by /u/RealHomieJohn [link] [comments] [► Source]
can you just copy C drive over to a larger disk?
Image
My C drive currently sits inside a 500GB ssd inside a custom built PC, but the C drive storage is almost maxed out, so I'm thinking of buying a new 1TB ssd. Is it easy as just installing the new disk, copying my C drive over to new disk, booting my computer from the new disk, checking if the system / Windows works fine on the new SSD, and then erasing the C drive from the ssd I copied from? Is this the right approach or am I missing something important here? submitted by /u/lilsuperhippo [link] [comments] [► Source]
REQ: OC Troubleshooting Suggestions for Sandy Bridge/High Sierra Install
Image
I've come across this error before, on a different Sandy Bridge build that I tried to install High Sierra 10.13.6 on using OpenCore. I'm certain it's an OpenCore issue, because after having no success solving it on that box, I gave up, deleted the entire OpenCore EFI on my USB stick, installed Clover to the EFI instead, and the High Sierra/Sandy Bridge install went from start to finish without any drama -- or this error message: https://preview.redd.it/if9r022b63m61.jpg?width=660&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49290ebfa4b364fb51beef5d9dcfe0445a0c6aac I imagine I can install High Sierra on this box using Clover once again, but I want to do an OpenCore Sandy Bridge build this time. CASE: Mini-Box m350 • MOBO: AsRock H67M-ITX • CPU: i3-2125 • OC version: 0.6.6 • Kexts: RealtekRTL8111-V2.2.2; AppleALC; VirtualSMC; Lilu; WhateverGreen; USBInjectAll (per Dortania Guide, which says it's needed because "AsRock is dumb"); XHCI-Unsupported; BIOS: v.2.10...

Can my Thinkpad L490 be my Hackintosh daily driver?
Image
I currently own a Thinkpad L490 (i7-8565U, Intel UHD 620, 16Gb RAM, 512 SSD), which I bought a little over a year ago. I have been thinking about buying a mac since a lot of my current work/uni tasks would benefit a lot from macOS. I've been reading a lot about Hackintosh, and I see that the setup process is a lot easier nowadays. I have also seen that many people don't recommend Hackintosh as a daily driver given its lack of stability. With all this being said, would I be able to install macOS on my machine, and use it for all my work, on a daily basis? I'm a computer science student, so most of my workflow would be for programming. Thanks! submitted by /u/omiguelgomes [link] [comments] [► Source]
980Ti & Big Sur? Catalina?
Image
Hi. Its been a while. Ive been happily running High Sierra 10.13.6 on my i7-9700 & 980Ti setup for about a year and a half now for video editing and many other productions. In 2021, it is slowly beginning to show its age in software. I need to put something newer on there so that I can stay with the times without having to spend 50x my life's savings on a Mac Pro. I know the last time anything above high sierra does not work with Nvidia GPUs, but I have been off reddit for a while so I dont know the advancements (if any) that have been made and I think I need a bit of a catch-up. I frequently find myself running Final Cut Pro X and need the GPU power over my 2017 MacBook pro (editing 4K is really really slow for me on that) I also use Optical audio on my system. I dont really care about the other inputs and outputs on my system other than USB3.0 and USB-C. They're there and certainly nice to have functioning. Dual display setup, ones a giant touchscreen, ones at a desk a...
The Beelink SEi8 (i5-8259u (Coffeelake) + Iris Pro 655) is SO DAMN CLOSE. Help...
Image
I've hackintoshed over a dozen machines, several recently with OpenCore (which is so much easier, thank goodness). But... this damn NUC wannabe refuses to tick the final checkmark box. In Short : I get a black screen prior to the Mac OS installer showing any sort of GUI. As in, it completes the boot process, and then is black. In fact, it will eventually go to "sleep", indicating that it is definitely on the installation "choose your language" screen, but I just can't see it. Things I've tried : Combed through 10 or 20 "successful" posts that are rocking the i5-8259u and Iris Pro 655 setup. These are far and wide 8th gen Intel NUC setups, but, some are other random laptops. The AAPL,Platform-id used in most of these simply hasn't been right for me. Installing Mojave, Catalina, and now Big Sur. All produce the exact same black installer screen. Replaced the PCIe NVMe Replaced the RAM This Beelink SEi8 has two HDMI ports on the back....
Troubleshooting sleep on a Hackintosh

Hi all, me again, kindly asking for help TL, DR: I have two almost identical vanilla OpenCore Hacks, one sleeps and one doesn't, and I'm losing my mind trying to figure out why, please help me troubleshoot it I'm trying to build second Hackintosh, this time for my wife, with the Coffee Lake platform (so far it seems to be best bang for the buck if buying used parts, and we can't afford better/newer) Hardware (in the "broken" one): Motherboard that's confirmed to have working sleep in numerous Hackintoshes (more on that later) Core i3-8100, some generic RAM AMD Radeon R9 380 4gb Sabrent Rocket Q 512 NVMe for macOS with NVMeFix.kext Some garbage Kingston SSDs on the SATA controller for Windows and files Fenvi native 802.11ac Wi-Fi Chinese RGB-lit keyboard, Microsoft wireless mouse, Wacom tablet I used EFI that I've built for myself in the similar i5-8400 build with one of these motherboards. The installation went well and I'd say it...

[OpenCore]Stuck after the picker D:

Why the ACPI Error...? So my ancient macbook died and I am trying to turn my i5-6600, b150m pro4s, 16G ram PC into a hackintosh. After spending hours carefully following the plist instructions, doing the sanity check, I get this screen and no progress... Why am I getting that ACPI error when I created the ssdt's according to the guide, with SSDTTime? I've run the Sanity Checker as well , and there seems to be no problems there. What am I missing here? SATA drives not visible in installer.
Image
Hey! I am trying to run mac os Big Sur on my pc..... everything is fine and I can reach the installer (got some errors but it got solved). The problem is I cannot use my usb mouse. My PS2 keyboard works but the mouse doesn't. I think usb ports are not been detected.... So I tried to install catallina and I can go to the installer as well. But here the problem is I cannot see the drives in disk utility. I tried all the kexts one by one for the disk problem mentioned in the guide but no luck... But if I run high seirra installer I can see all the drives in disk utility. I think this is because high seirra is officially supported on my hardware. PCIE NVME Remaining Life % changed? TRIM?

My Samsung 970 Evo PCIE NVME SSD life remaining was going down alarmingly quickly... down to 91% in only a few months... I then realised that TRIM was not enabled on the drive...
