Hi all,
Our workplace decided to throw away an old iMac so I've decided to take it off them.
It is using an Intel Core i7 - 2.8GHZ with 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM.
From what I've read, I need to use a MAC to be able to create a usb installer for opencore legacy patcher and won't be able to use a Windows machine to create the usb?
Which means the only mac I will have access to is this iMac machine, all of my other machines are Windows. I am a bit concerned that I will create a usb installer, the installation gets corrupt at one point then I'll have a Mac that doesn't work / unable to create another usb installer.
So I was planning to get a SSD, connect it externally via usb adapter and install the OS on there, leaving the HDD inside of the iMAC temporarily so that I can create another usb installer if it fails. Is that possible?
The iMac is currently running osx version 10.6.8 and any software update tells me that it is currently up to date. I've tried getting into recovery mode to wipe using a Windows keyboard but am having no luck at the moment, will try another wired windows keyboard soon.
How should I attempt to upgrade it and what's the best version of osx to try that's fast and stable? It will be used for basic tasks such as web browsing, word processing and watching videos.
