How to Fix Installer Screen Freezes and Load OCLP Desktop Drivers

When installing macOS Sonoma on a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (MacBookPro9,2) via USB, the system can boot to the wallpaper and freeze with a blank white screen, failing to display the OpenCore Post-Install prompt. This behaviour is due to missing graphics acceleration drivers in early boot phases.

1. Prerequisites

  • Target Hardware: MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (Intel HD 4000 graphics).
  • Required Tools: OCLP application.

2. Compatibility Snapshot

  • Sonoma Graphics: Intel HD 4000 is not natively supported in Sonoma, meaning the desktop will run without graphics acceleration until OCLP patches are applied.

3. Installation Preparation

  1. Wait for boot: The white screen is a temporary graphics stall. Wait up to 10 minutes to verify if the setup wizard appears.

4. EFI and config.plist Review

  1. This does not apply to this case as the files are managed by the patcher installer.

5. Post-Installation

  1. Install OCLP App manually: If the auto-launch notification does not appear, open Safari, download the latest version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher, and copy it to your Applications folder.
  2. Run Patching: Launch OCLP, click Post-Install Root Patch, and apply the graphics drivers.
  3. Install to internal disk: Click Build and Install OpenCore and install it to the internal SSD EFI partition.

6. Troubleshooting

Reported Issue: Wallpaper shows then turns white
  1. Safe Mode boot: If you cannot reach the desktop, reboot the MacBook Pro and hold the Shift key to boot into Safe Mode, then launch OCLP to apply the root patches.

7. Dual Boot and Advanced Configuration

  • This does not apply to this case because it only affects the macOS graphic drivers.

8. Verification, Maintenance and Rollback

  • Verify Fix: Ensure the dock behaves smoothly and transparency is restored.

9. References and Glossary

  • HD 4000: The integrated GPU utilized in Intel 3rd-Gen mobile platforms.

Original Question: "Issues with booting Sonoma on USB"

Issues with booting Sonoma on USB

I tried installing Sonoma on my 2012MBP and when I booted (USB) the wallpaper shows and disappears into this white background.

And the notification that tells you to install OpenCore after booting hasn't shown, it has been 30minutes.. do I install the OpenCore app directly from Safari or what.
