Fixing OCLP Boot Loops on MacBook Air 2017

Resolving the Brief Flash and Login Screen Return

When the 'Install macOS' option disappears instantly on your 2017 MacBook Air, it's usually because the SIP (System Integrity Protection) or Secure Boot variables are blocking the patched kernel.

The Fix:

  1. NVRAM Reset: This is mandatory. Hold Cmd+Opt+P+R for two chimes to clear the 'stuck' boot entries.
  2. OCLP Settings: Open the OCLP app, go to Settings, and ensure 'Allow Native Overrides' is checked. Re-build and install OpenCore to your disk.
  3. The 5-Second Rule: When the boot picker appears, wait 5 seconds before selecting the EFI Boot. This allows the UEFI drivers to fully initialize the USB partition.

MacBook Air 2017 — Ventura install via OCLP flashes briefly then returns to login screen

I'm trying to install macOS Ventura on my MacBook Air 2017 using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

I've already created the installer and applied the patcher to the disk. When I restart and hold the Option key, the boot picker does appear, so I select EFI Boot.

According to the official guide, I expect to see a second boot option (the non-EFI one) that lets me proceed with the Ventura installation (the one that I have attached above). It does show up briefly, but disappears almost instantly and sends me back to the regular login screen.

What am I missing here?

⚠️ WARNING:

Installing macOS Tahoe on unsupported hardware is NOT supported by the OpenCore Legacy Patcher developers. Please be aware that numerous users have attempted installation, often resulting in serious issues including hardware malfunctions and complete data loss.

Also understand that OCLP supports over 83 Mac models! Just because it "worked" on one, does not mean it will not cause major issues on your device.

NOTE: You might have seen a new piece of software called OCLP-Mod. The OCLP developers do NOT recommend using any modification of the genuine OCLP software. Keep in mind, anyone is able to make a fork of OCLP (a fork is a modification of the original project). No other software is checked and verified safe or actually working on all 83 Mac models.

In closing, please only use the genuine version of OCLP. Do not install Tahoe until a fully compatible public version of OCLP is released. Thanks!
