How to Fix 'The bless of the installer disk failed' error when creating a bootable with an Internal partition.

This is a comprehensive guide to resolve the issue described in the post. Ensure you follow all steps carefully.

1. Prerequisites

  • Hardware compatibility: Verify your exact Mac or PC model, CPU, GPU, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chipset.
  • Required tools: Have OpenCore, OCLP, ProperTree, and a USB installer ready.

2. Compatibility Snapshot

  • Check if your hardware is fully supported by the target macOS version. OCLP supports many models, but some have limitations.

3. Installation Preparation

  1. Configure your BIOS/UEFI settings appropriately.
  2. Create a USB installer matching your target macOS.

4. EFI and config.plist Review

  1. Review your EFI folder layout: BOOT, OC/ACPI, OC/Drivers, OC/Kexts, OC/Tools.
  2. Ensure essential kexts like Lilu, VirtualSMC, and WhateverGreen are present.

5. Post-Installation

  1. Run OCLP Post-Install Root Patch if you are on an unsupported Mac.
  2. Check graphics acceleration, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

6. Troubleshooting

Reported issue
  1. For this specific issue, verify your kexts and patches are up to date.
  2. Check system logs and use verbose mode to identify errors.
Common Hackintosh/OCLP checks
  • Stuck at Apple logo: Check verbose logs.
  • No graphics acceleration: Verify Metal support.

7. Dual Boot and Advanced Configuration

  • If dual booting, use separate disks when possible to avoid EFI overwrites.

8. Verification, Maintenance and Rollback

  • Verify the fix worked and keep dated EFI archives.
  • Have a rollback plan using Time Machine or a previous EFI.

Original Question: "'The bless of the installer disk failed' error when creating a bootable with an Internal partition."

'The bless of the installer disk failed' error when creating a bootable with an Internal partition.

Mac Mini Late 2012 (Macmini 6'2), OCLP 2.4.1, currently running MacOS Ventura 13.7.8

I want to upgrade to Sonoma, so I downloaded the stable version from Mr. Macintosh's website: https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-sonoma-full-installer-database-download-directly-from-apple/

Sonoma 14.7.8 Build 23J520. I ran the InstallAssistant.pkg file smoothly and had the installer set. I then made a 20GB MacOS Extended (Journaled) partition off my 500GB SSD internal drive, and named it MyVolume.

Now here's the issue:

When I tried to create a bootable MacOS installer from OCLP, it says 'No disks found'.

Due to this, I then proceeded to the Apple support page for the Terminal command for Sonoma, and when I run it, it brings me the error attached.

I looked for a solution at a certain reddit comment who suggested to grant Full Disk Access to both OCLP and Terminal. I did that but to no avail. I would be grateful to receive support and guidance towards this issue. Thank you.

EDIT: Also for anyone wondering, I don't have a USB at my disposal, and I installed the Ventura through the internal partition method. I don't understand why it's bringing an error now with Sonoma.

⚠️ WARNING:

Installing macOS Tahoe on unsupported hardware is NOT supported by the OpenCore Legacy Patcher developers. Please be aware that numerous users have attempted installation, often resulting in serious issues including hardware malfunctions and complete data loss.

Also understand that OCLP supports over 83 Mac models! Just because it "worked" on one, does not mean it will not cause major issues on your device.

NOTE: You might have seen a new piece of software called OCLP-Mod. The OCLP developers do NOT recommend using any modification of the genuine OCLP software. Keep in mind, anyone is able to make a fork of OCLP (a fork is a modification of the original project). No other software is checked and verified safe or actually working on all 83 Mac models.

In closing, please only use the genuine version of OCLP. Do not install Tahoe until a fully compatible public version of OCLP is released. Thanks!
