Surprisingly painless Hackintosh

I was fed up with my 2019 MBP struggling with thermal throttling, so I decided to dual-boot my Windows rig with macOS. It's a surprisingly reliable work computer.

Hardware

  • Ryzen 9 3900X
  • ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming WiFi II
  • 3080 Ti (disabled in macOS)
  • AMD RX 6600
  • Intel AX200 (no Airdrop of course)
  • Samsung G9 (5120x1440)

Software

  • macOS 15.7.7
  • OpenCore 1.0.7
  • iMacPro1,1 (couldn't get MacPro7,1 to work)

I just use a UGREEN DisplayPort KVM to switch between GPUs at the moment, I may use a ProMicro to try and automate the actual switch at some point.

I may install a WiFi card later to achieve Airdrop, and I might have another look at getting the MacPro7,1 SMBIOS to work.

I've seen a lot of people upgrading to Tahoe too, is it worth looking into that?
