Resolving Sudden Account Lockouts and Recovery Loops
If your 2017 MacBook Air password suddenly stops working after a battery drain, it's likely a corrupted NVRAM or a FileVault token mismatch.
The Fix:
- Exit Internet Recovery: Internet Recovery is for native firmware. Since you are on OCLP, you must boot from your OCLP USB stick to reach the correct OCLP-aware Recovery Mode.
- Reset Password: In OCLP Recovery, open Terminal and type
resetpassword. Follow the prompts to set a new one. - NVRAM Reset: Perform a triple PRAM reset (Cmd+Opt+P+R). This often fixes the 'incorrect password' bug by clearing the system's security state.
- FileVault: Once back in, disable FileVault to prevent this from happening again on legacy hardware.
