Success Report: Running Xcode and iOS Simulator on 2012 MBP

Proof that Legacy Macs are Still Pro Machines

You don't need a $2000 M3 Mac to start app development. A 2012 MacBook Pro with OCLP can still handle Xcode and iOS Simulators.

How to Optimize for Xcode:

  1. RAM Upgrade: Ensure you have 16GB of RAM. Xcode is a memory hog.
  2. Clean Build: Use DevCleaner to regularly clear out derived data and old simulator logs to keep your SSD from filling up.
  3. Metal Patches: Ensure your OCLP root patches are up to date so the iOS Simulator can use hardware acceleration for the UI.

Original Question: "I don’t know why or how but I managed to get Xcode working with no lag and an iPhone 8 simulator on a MacBook from 2012"

You don’t need the latest and greatest to be an app deliver work with what you have
