Resolving Import Crashes in FCP 12.12
If Final Cut Pro crashes during import on your 2015 MacBook Pro with AMD R9 graphics, it's a conflict between the new Metal 3 frameworks and the legacy GPU drivers.
The Fix:
- Media Encoder: Even though you are using ProRes, try re-encoding the footage specifically with Handbrake using the 'Production Standard' profile. Sometimes metadata headers cause the crash.
- Background Rendering: Turn off 'Background Render' in FCP Preferences > Playback. This is a common crash trigger on legacy GPUs.
- AMFI Settings: Ensure AMFI is not fully disabled in OCLP. Use the
amfi=0x80boot-arg or the AMFIPass.kext to maintain library validation while still allowing root patches.
Original Question: "Issues with final cut pro 12.12"
Anyone else have issues with final cut pro 12.12 on MacBook Pro 15 2015 with AMD R9, running sequoia with open core. Just redid the root patches, but everytime i try to import anything, it just crashes, even though footage is converted to pro res.
