Captive portal protected wifi broken

So I've recently installed macOS Sequoia on a MacBook pro 2017 13 inch with touchbar, and it works wonderfully, however I am unable to use any captive portal protected wifi networks (tested with NS free wifi in the train) on my phone it connects, prompts me to accept the agreement and then it works, but on my Mac it just connects without even giving me the option to open the captive portal and so I never end up having wifi access, despite it showing connected. Additionally it safari it specifically says "this mac is not connected to wifi" and Firefox says to check my internet connection
