Sequoia Installation Guide for 2016 MacBook 12

Overcoming the '29 Minute' Shutdown Loop

If your 2016 MacBook 12-inch is shutting down during the Sequoia install, it's likely a thermal shutdown or a boot rom mismatch.

The Correct Procedure:

  1. Thermal Management: The 12-inch MacBook has no fans. During a heavy install, it can overheat and shut down. Place it on a cold surface or use a fan to blow air over the bottom case during the installation.
  2. OCLP Version: Do not use an older patcher. Use OCLP 2.4.1 but ensure you select 'Host Model' in the settings to get the exact configuration for the 2016 model.
  3. Clean Install: Since you've already wiped the drive, try creating the USB installer again with a different, high-quality USB 3.0 drive. Cheap drives often overheat and cause the 'shutdown' behavior you're seeing.

Original Question: "Can’t Sequoia on 2016 MacBook 12"

trying fresh install on 2016 12”

it had sierra, updated to high sierra to update the boot rom. wiped and installed monterey offical from usb key. used OCLP to make sequoia install key, booted from it, wiped drive, installed, it onstalls and reboots then when I boot off the open core Wi-Fi thing and the partly installed installer on the internal drive, it says 29 minutes left, progresses for quite awhile then turns off. keep booting again same 29 minutes then eventually turns off.

have done pram reset.

i though having installed Monterey id be on the latest boot rom.

have done lots of OCLP before, no issues.

should I try an older patcher? or an older built of sequoia if I can find it?
