Unibeast macOS Sierra flash drive not appearing in bios
Image
I’ve been trying to convert my netbook (Dell Inspiron 11 2168...?)into a hackintosh for some time now. I got a virtual machine running and used that to run unibeast. I first created my installation disk to be compatible with UEFI (since my laptop supports both uefi and bios). When I tried to run it from the uefi menu, it did not appear. I tried making it compatible with bios and switched my boot loader mode, but the disk still did not appear in my boot menu. Few questions before pulling the plug
Image
Hey everyone! Got a lot of valuable info already from this sub, but I want to ask a few precise questions before I actually delve into building a new PC. Basically the machine I want to build is going to serve me for (in order or priority): 1. Audio work (mostly composing in Ableton and Logic, max/msp and other stuff) 2. Photoshop 3. Unreal Engine for creative purposes, some other 3d apps 4. Gaming on Windows Most important (as far as compatibility goes) components I chose so far without going into the details: i7-7700k GTX 1060/1070 (need to balance the budget before deciding) Gigabyte Gaming 5 z270 board 256 gb ssd drive for os x 240 gb ssd drive for windows 10 2tb drive for os x storage (all creative assets) possibly more storage, need to plan that further Now for the questions: 1) Is it possibly worth it to go for an AMD gpu given native support? Are Pascal cards behaving fine and without major hiccups, especially in creative software? 2) How is Thunderbolt support? I can live with...

Help me! macOS flash drive not appearing in bios
Image
I’ve been trying to make a hackintosh out of this netbook I have (Dell Inspiron 11 2168?). I managed to get a virtual machine running on it with some shady virtual machine file I downloaded, and created a uefi disk of macOS Sierra with unibeast. I looked in my uefi, but the disk didn’t show up. I tried making the disk on unibeast with bios (because my motherboard supports both), and that didn’t appear in the bios either. I checked, and the boot files appear to be in the right places and clover is installed. What is going on?! (In case you couldn’t tell, this is my first attempt at a hackintosh) submitted by /u/mrflounderthethird [link] [comments] [► Source]
Got older hardware through the Sierra 10.12.6 install process, but no luck with old Nvidia GT220 video card. Only getting generic graphics.
Image
Specs: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500, 2.9 ghz Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3L ATX LGA775 (BIOS) Video: Nvidia GeForce GT220 <---only getting generic graphics Audio: Realtek ALC888 <---not recognized Wifi dongle: Linksys WUSB600N <---not recognized Drive: 2tb SATA RAM: 8gb DDR2 I've tried running with and without nvidia inject, tried a couple different versions of NVDAStartup.kext, tried telling Clover to use nvidia web drivers, all to no avail - still only getting generic graphics. I thought it might be because I'm running the monitor through the VGA port and not DVI since the monitor I'm using has no DVI port, but to test this hypothesis, I hooked up another monitor that has DVI and it didn't change anything. The last time I did a successful MacOS install on this machine, it was 10.6 or 10.7, and I've forgotten a hell of a lot of the basics, such as where relevant config.plist files are kept, how best to edit them, how best to install kext files...

How important is it for your BIOS to have all these settings.

Going by the tonymacx86 guide. These are the recommended BIOS "tweaks". How important are each of these and is it a big deal if you're missing a setting or two? If your CPU supports VT-d, disable it If your system has CFG-Lock, disable it If your system has Secure Boot Mode, disable it Set OS Type to Other OS If your system has IO SerialPort, disable it Set XHCI Handoff to Enabled submitted by /u/jayjr1105 [link] [comments] [► Source]

How do I fix external SSDs showing as internal?
Image
A quick search revealed someone had this issue and used a MultiBeast El Capitan patch and it worked. I am on Sierra 10.12.6 vanilla. My config.plist contains the "External icons patch". That seems handy on non Intel SATA controllers that have internal drives showing as external. Exactly the opposite. My USB enclosure/SSD - It is connected to an Intel Z270 based USB port. Interesting note; if I put a mechanical drive into the USB enclosure, it shows up as External. Anyone having this problem or know how to resolve it? Apple to Embrace the iPhone 8 Notch [Report]
Image
Apple has decided to embrace the notch at the top of the iPhone 8 instead of hiding it, according to a Bloomberg report. The iPhone 8 is said to feature an OLED display that when showing black could blend nearly perfectly with the notch on the top bezel. However, rather than use this to hide the notch area, Apple is going to let the notch stand out. Apple has opted to not hide the notch area at the top of the screen, showing a definitive cutout at the top of apps with non-black backgrounds. The cutout is noticeable during app usage in the middle of the very top of the screen, where the status bar (the area that shows cellular reception, the time, and battery life) would normally be placed, according to the images. Instead, the status bar will be split into left and right sides, which some Apple employees call “ears” internally. In images of recent test devices, the left side shows the time while the area on the right side of the notch displays cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity and remain...
Alexa and Cortana Will Soon Talk to Each Other
Image
Amazon and Microsoft have announced that soon Alexa will be able to talk to Cortana, and Cortana will be able to talk to Alexa. That means you'll be able to tell your Echo, “Alexa, open Cortana,” or tell your Windows 10 device, “Cortana, open Alexa.” Alexa customers will be able to access Cortana’s unique features like booking a meeting or accessing work calendars, reminding you to pick up flowers on your way home, or reading your work email – all using just your voice. Similarly, Cortana customers can ask Alexa to control their smart home devices, shop on Amazon.com, interact with many of the more than 20,000 skills built by third-party developers, and much more. “Ensuring Cortana is available for our customers everywhere and across any device is a key priority for us,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft. “Bringing Cortana’s knowledge, Office 365 integration, commitments, and reminders to Alexa is a great step toward that goal.” Share Article: Facebook ,    Twitter ,  ...

Connectivity Issues
Image
First, this may be more of an OSX issue rather than a system but I wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone has some thoughts. System is a XPS 9350 w/ the DW1560 Wifi card. The system is used by my wife and is/was working great for a few days but didn't have much usage. I went to use the machine this morning and found that wifi; while connected to our network and receiving an IP from DHCP did not have connectivity on the local network or out to the internet. Pings results in timeout from both the XPS and from another machine - but the weird thing is that if I take the network down and then backup for a split second anywhere from 1 - 3 ICMP packets will go out then simply start to fail. Now, last night Filezilla was put on the laptop and we had noticed it installed iDoctor along with it, my wife removed iDoctor following their instructions and went to bed. I feel like that removable may also be a key to the issue if it isn't system related. I checked and no weird DNS or ...
SSD no longer recognised in disk utility/bios
Image
So I managed to successfully install 10.12.6 at first but I had a problem after a few days. Gigabyte support told me to flash BIOS which made it even worse while the problem was only incompatible HWmonitor gpu sensor. Anyway I formatted my Toshiba rd400 ssd (attached via m.2 slot on mobo) and re-flashed my BIOS back to the original version (F3) but the ssd won't show up in my BIOS. I also tried to install via Hackintosh Zone but it also is not finding my ssd (disconnected all other hard disks). Can someone please help me out? Sleep problems
Image
Hello, on a HP elitebook 8770w with Yosemite (system is defined as a bmp10,1; using dsdt and ssdt, and patched aicpm), I have the problem that sleep doesn't work. Immediately when it would sleep it wakes up, sleeps, wakes up,... In the console I've got lines saying the wake up was caused by LANC, as well as the wakeup might have been caused by a USB device. Of course I read the guides regarding this problem, but I'm stuck: the usual way recommended is to switch of "Wake up by LAN" and "Wake up by USB" in BIOS, but my BIOS doesn't offer those (it offers "Wake by USB while on battery", which doesn't help me a lot, since I anyway don't care about Sleep whenever the laptop is only on battery). So I assume (but please correct me, if there are other options) that I have to do it via DSDT. But I have no clue, how to disable the wake ups there, or at least with what keywords I should use google with (the ones I've tried show no possible...
Key swap on internal keyboard
Image
Hello, it's about a hp elitebook 8770w on Yosemite. The internal keyboard has two keys swapped. An external keyboard connected via USB is fine. How can I fix this? On Mavericks I had it fixed (I remember it took me like forever there, but I don't remember how I did it). I hoped it was simply done by VoodooPS2, but when I try my Mavericks' VoodooPS2, it doesn't change anything. Using simply Ukulele to swap them in general doesn't fix it without breaking it for the other. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/JurassicGoat [link] [comments] [► Source]
Help with cloning, macOS (SSD->SSD) and Linux (HDD->SSD)
