2016 Macbook Pro igpu Windows
Image
Hi all, looking to buy a 2016 Macbook Pro since I have some programs i need to use that only work with Windows. I read that Windows only uses the dGPU so temperatures are always hot no matter what you do. I'd like to enable the iGPU / dual gpu functionality in Windows and someone said if you use Opencore Legacy it will work. Can anyone confirm this is possible? In Windows I need to use the iGPU 90% of the time, and the dGPU maybe 10% of the time. I have an old Dell Precision and this works perfectly, windows uses iGPU and some apps can use dGPU submitted by /u/AutismallyUrs [link] [comments] [► Source]

Quick instructions tips

I followed the site in attempt to install OpenCore on My 2013 Mac Pro for Sonoma. But I failed it twice. It always comes back with a circle with cross, and that’s it for the OS boot. I suspect I didn’t install the patcher properly. I need a quick tip instruction outlining the steps to be more clear. Can someone please help? Long while since a patcher update
Image
This gap might be normal, and maybe nothing new has been needed, a good thing, but it will soon be 4 months since last patcher update, so hoping the project is still active. I'm grateful to have been able to keep using my MP 5,1 because of it. Thanks, in any case, to all the contributing OCLP techs! submitted by /u/JFRedd1t [link] [comments] [► Source]
Need some formatting advice
Image
Hoping someone can give me some help to fix my (or my partition software's) mistake. The quick version is, on a mac 5,1, I have an ssd with 4 partitions; 1) my opencore efi, 2) windows, 3) Monterey, and 4) photo storage for mac os. What happened was my Monterey partition was too small, and the only place I was able to format was the windows. I used easeus to allocate space on the windows partition and in doing so it messed up the Monterey and photos partitions. I have full backups of the photos, but not of Monterey. The issue is the Monterey part had all my opencore things on it. I do have a fully functional Catalina drive that is separate on an nvme, and my opencore efi seems to be functioning. I have a bootpicker on startup, and can pick between windows and Catalina. So the question is, can I just format the partitions that are damaged/unreadable (all data is there, file system isn't working), go into Catalina and use opencore to install Monterey fresh, or will that mess anyt...

My Late 2015 iMac Retina 4K
Image
I finally took the plunge on this particular machine. I've had issues with it since January, when it somehow stopped opening files on double click and told me to trash them, and wouldn't properly set up Time Machine. I bought a used 2023 Mac mini to replace it, but I didnt want to get rid of this. It still runs slow, like it was with 12.7.6 prior to January, but that's likely because it has the original HDD in it. If I get brave enough, given that it's an iMac and I've never opened up an all-in-one, I'm going to clone it to an SSD. submitted by /u/bluorangefyre [link] [comments] [► Source]

Issues with zoom
Image
Really hoping someone can help. I have an i7 early 2015 macbook pro I gifted to my daughter for her home schooling. The old ios was no longer supported so key apps like Word etc didn't work. I used the OCLP tool. It offered sequiona the latest ios so that's what I went for. Worked fine, took forever and at the end I had to force reboot. Seemed to have been fine apart from zoom calls. Her teacher shares her zoom whiteboard but my daughter can't see the shared screen. Just stays on 'loading'. Have tried the app. Tried browser. Different browsers. Nothing seems to be able to get the shared screen to show (video call seems to work otherwise ie they can see each other). Her tutor won't use any other alternative to zoom, either. I did use the patcher at the end and I'm sure it confirmed the patches. Any ideas what I should do? Please. submitted by /u/HSPmale [link] [comments] [► Source]

Anyone here with 2011 iMac recommendations?
Image
Hey, hope you’re all well. Currently in the process of buying a cheap 2nd hand iMac with the following specs: Apple 27" mid 2011 iMac 3.1Ghz quad-i5 16Gb ram 1Tb HDD AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1gb vram Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 I haven’t had a working computer since my black late 08 MacBook with Lion finally gave up. So havent had much experience with Mac OS after that (or windows since xp) Can’t afford any hardware upgrades (ssd or graphics), but really excited, and it already sounds like an awesome machine, despite the age. Seller has pre installed a fresh copy of Carolina (for some reason?) - I really have no idea if this is a good idea… if I’ll be too restricted by having older hardware… or actually the newer os may have efficiency improvements that make it an upgrade? Would really appreciate any feedback/advice from anyone with the same/similar hardware! I don’t necessarily want to try out every OS from supported to all the ones available via OCLP. To be honest, will probabl...

Still can’t get Big Sur to boot on my 2011 Early MBP…
Image
I recently tried installing Big Sur on my MBP Early 2011 13-inch (8,1) but when it comes to boot into the setup it just hangs and vents are on full blast. I reinstalled High Sierra and recreated the bootable USB but the same happens. Before downgrading to High Sierra I encountered a weird issue where the keyboard’s backlight was flashing on and off. (I have successfully installed Big Sur in the past with no issues.) Why is it happening? submitted by /u/rackajuhu [link] [comments] [► Source]
How to improve battery life and thermals on 2012 2.7GHz MacBook Pro 9,1?
Image
I’ve tried everything, I installed a new battery, as the old one had expanded enough to crack the plastic casing, I upgraded the ram to 16GB, I added new thermal paste, and I installed an SSD. I’ve also enabled reduce transparency and reduce motion, but the battery life is still only about an hour and a half, and it gets very hot (70° C Idle), I got the battery off of eBay so it might be junk but I want to try other things before spending $100 on a good battery. My Mac also does not (natively) support Power Nap or low power mode. submitted by /u/CoopsIsCooliGuess [link] [comments] [► Source]
systemversion.plist build version mismatch
Image
I just watched Mr Macintosh's video on how to solve this problem by deleting the staged upgrade files, initiating the update and then powering down in the middle of it to force an upgrade failure. I am sorry if this question has been answered already but I am wondering... Can I just let the system upgrade and this will fix the issue? I actually want to upgrade to Sequoia so I don't mind actually letting the upgrade finish. I have updated my OCLP to 2.2.0 without any issues. I just cannot patch my root files because I had automatic updates turned on and I have fixed that issue now by turning it off. submitted by /u/Docgeorge1975 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Hardware for Successful MBP/Sequoia Operation
Image
I'm curious as to what hardware configuration those who are successfully running Sequoia in their 2011 MacBook Pro's have. Mine has the Samsung SSD 840 EVO with the original SATA cable, the AMD discrete GPU and 16GB RAM. Sequoia "works" on the machine but it's 'laggy' and some web graphics won't load. The MBP works fine with High Sierra and all hardware/firmware diagnostics point to a healthy system. The read/write speeds are close to optimal. Any ideas? If upgrading the SSD and SATA cable (or any other tweaks) would allow Sequoia to run optimally, I'd make those changes. Input from successful installs would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/mpb1213 [link] [comments] [► Source]
Sequoia on TrashCan?
Image
How well the Sequoia runs on the MacPro 6,1 TrashCan with OCLP? I was googling but what I could find is very mixed feedback, some say it is horrible and the others say it runs well? I'm still on Monterey, and some apps require newer macOS. In the past I think I tried Ventura on TrashCan when it was released, and it was horrible experience. submitted by /u/d3ad-pixel [link] [comments] [► Source]
Odd volume bug in Sequoia with new bluetooth speaker?
Image
Wondering if anyone has run into a similar issue OCLP Sequoia (15.3.1) I have a non Apple keyboard connected via USB, which has Fn + VolUp and VolDn keys I recently got a new bluetooth speaker as my laptop main audio output - when connected I realize my keyboard is now controlling the volumne of the bluetooth speaker - I think this might be normal so, NBD whenever i switch back to internal speakers, whether or not headphones plugged, i don't have control of the volume via keyboard. I think in an earlier instance I did, but for some reason the vol overlay near bottom of screen stopped showing. So now, no vol overlay when i change volume, no control of volume from keyboard. A restart doesn't seem to remedy this sooooo, my best guess is NVRAM reset, will give that a try. submitted by /u/besseddrest [link] [comments] [► Source]

Spilled water on my OCLP’d 2012 MBP. Can I put my storage drive in a 2011 MBP?
Image
Basically the title, but I accidentally spilled water on my 2012 MBP that I’d used OCLP to install Big Sur on so I could keep using some of my programs that lost support when Catalina was phased out. I dried it out, but the 2012 doesn’t post and the charger light doesn’t show when plugged in. Will I be able to install my SSD from my 2012 into a 2011 MBP I have even though I put OCLP on my MBP? I have a smaller SSD in my 2011 that I could install OCLP onto first before putting my 2012 SSD in. Maybe that might help? submitted by /u/JSteggs [link] [comments] [► Source]

. . . that's all the further it'll go. If I press the Option Key I get a Black Unlit Screen with no Backlight. But am left in the same place. This is the first time I've had any issues like this after having done countless installs. The unit is a 15" 2011 MBP 8,2; 16GB/500GB. Although one thing I've noticed and was hoping to fix is the onboard microphone won't work. An external will. After spending quite a long time in this forum and searching the only conclusion I could come up with was the EFI Partition was corrupt. So I took the drive out of the macbook pro attached it to my 13 and installed OCLP 2.2.0 on it again. I put it back in and I get the same behavior. I thought I might do a full Over-Install, but didn't hoping that fixing the EFI would be enough to get the Startup Manager back and I could go from...
„There was an issue when preparing software update” error message after install.
Image
Hello everyone! I have a question about my MacBook Pro late-2013. I’d like to install Sonoma with OCLP on the latest version & I keep getting this error message as soon as the loading bar hits „18 minutes remaining”. I do all the steps correctly in order to install the thing. -prepare USB -install OCLP to it -boot up from OCLP EFI on the boot picket -format the entire drive (not just the container or partition) with APFS and GUID partition map -do the root patches. All of this has worked with my iMac from late 2014 and is working perfectly fine, but my MacBook just… doesn’t wanna MacBook. One thing that I found off is that the resolution is off and it’s using a way higher one, which brings some doubts if I’m doing everything correctly. Can anybody help me, please? or is it a bug?? submitted by /u/IAmABoredCat1590 [link] [comments] [► Source]
