Upgrade Mac Pro to Hackintosh or new Mac Mini?
Image
Hi, I currently have a Mac Pro Early 2009 (specs -> image + 256 Samsung Pro SSD). Because the Mac is really consuming a lot of power, I would like to change it to a more energy efficient solution. The Mac is mainly used for a Plex Media Server, which does a lot of video transcoding and is on most of the day (if more power efficient maybe 24/7). Is it possible to get a Hackintosh which is suited for transcoding multiple 1080p streams (would prefer hardware transcoding if possible) and 24/7 use, with a dual LAN and enough memory (preferably 16GB+) for less money than the 2018 Mac Mini? The Mac/hackintosh will be used headless so I don't know if a GPU is needed? Does a GPU help in hardware-transcoding? I that case, what GPU would be a good option? Thanks in advance :) Regards, Patrick https://i.redd.it/4e7qan56zf721.png submitted by /u/Patrick161019 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Installing macOS (preferably Mojave) on my HP Pavilion Power Desktop 580
Image
Hello! I'm new to the Hackintosh community so I need some help with installing macOS on this PC. I always wanted to try macOS so I decided to start research on installing a copy of Sierra (when it still was new) on my HP PC. However all the tutorials or forum posts were either wrong or weren't directly made for my model of computer so I'm gonna ask for some help right here. What do I have to do to get started with using macOS Mojave on my PC? My specs are following: Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 @2.8GHz (six physical cores, not hyper-threaded; turbo boost enabled) RAM: 8GB DDR4 (idk if the speed is necessary) GPU: NVIDIA GTX1050 If more information is needed I will submit it. Thanks for the help! submitted by /u/_simplehowl_ [link] [comments] [► Source]
migrate from vmware to kvm?

currently using patched vmware to run highsierra on ubuntu host on intel cpu. can I migrate this installation to the new kvm method, or will i have to reinstall from scratch? the storage is a raw block device, not a vmdk, so that is not going to be a problem (even if it was vmdk, qemu-img would convert it anyway) - but what about the other dancing stuff around the vm like ovmf and efi etc? submitted by /u/ffiresnake [link] [comments] [► Source]

Fail during installing?
Image
Hi there! I was working to turn my laptop into a Hackintosh and I have followed the tutorial you've realized on Reddit. I have the bootable USB key with Clover and every requiered .kext on the folder "Other", as it sould be. The laptop is a HP Elitebook 2570p, with a i7-3520M and a HD4000, 6 GB of RAM. When I put the key on the laptop, it boot with Clover, then I start the install and there is a lot of sentence written on the screen, I see a lot of failure during injection of the .kext, so the mouse and the keyboard wont work, despite I see that this laptop is fully compatible with macOS with its required .kext. I had even tryed to install macOS, but I can't boot: it is sayed that I need to reboot. Could you help me? Thanks! submitted by /u/Denios5 [link] [comments] [► Source]

[Fix] Dual displays of same model with different EDID
Image
I just wanted to post here because I had to figure this one out on my own, and hopefully this can help others. TL;DR at the end Background I have had a BenQ PD3200U for a while. I got it second hand, and it was manufactured in week 38 of 2017. My only issue was the USB ports losing power/connection whenever the monitor went to sleep. This was fixed when I sent it back to BenQ for the latest firmware. At the same time I got my second PD3200U, manufactured week 29 of 2018, and it has no problems whatsoever. Once I got the older one back with the firmware fix, I noticed I didn't support Night Shift any more. And I wasn't really looking forward to sending it back for that reason. Diagnosis I figured out that Night Shift was disabled due to macOS detecting the old monitor as a Television (in System Information). This was also apparent from the Overscan slider in the Displays pane in System Preferences. After using DarwinDumper to get the EDID data for both displays I found out...
MacOS Recovery Partition not showing up in clover bootloader after using it
Image
Here is my setup specifications: - HP 8300 -i7 3770 - GTX 1050ti - Clover Bootloader, High Sierra 10.13.5 I updated to Mojave and my GTX 1050ti didn't like it, so I booted into the recovery disk through clover and restored my system to a 10.13.5 time machine backup. After that, I had to switch my drivers setting to nvidia's web drivers instead of mac drivers for nvidia, and then when I restarted for the changes to take effect, the recovery partition was missing from the boot screen. Advice on machine to hackintosh. (Thinktab x220 as daily)

been ghosting this sub for a while. First timer here, I am seeking a daily driver, coming from a 2011 Macbook pro i7, 2.0Ghz failed GPU. I have my eyes on a x220 i5 2.6Ghz with IPS screen. A few things I need clarification on: - Performance: how will it perform on hackintosh (how similar to my old macbook) on daily tasks, email, chrome,...etc?) - Graphics: I am a bit concerned here.. In the end, I want to have two external displays (x220 screen off) and be able to run some simulations (simulations run heavy on GPU) (My macbook struggled with this). How will an x220 handle this, am i better off looking at the x230? From this thread and the other hackintosh fourms, i see this machine is stable with hackintosh, if you have experiences please share: stable as in daily driver. This fits my budget of under $200. Am I getting a good deal with this x220 priced at $160. I am going to upgrade to ssd and probably have another ssd in the miniPCI. Thanks guys. **I am posting this in r/thin...

Lenovo T430s Boot Loop

Hello! I used the same instructions to create the Clover Bootloader and used the kexts and config file as well. I have been playing around with the config a lot, and have been slowly testing by replacing it with the config from https://github.com/dmitriypavlov/T430s-macOS which was used for a working 10.13 install. Hackintosh requested from a friend
Image
I'm the guy that helps people put their computers together and Windows installed, etc. My buddy is joining the PC Master Race and wants a Hackintosh. I'm am Ryzen fan and had him out together a typical budget build. I understand the concept of a Hackintosh but didn't realize it had such hardware limitations before having him buy some stuff. He has a Ryzen 5 2600 and a Gigabyte B450 AORUS M motherboard. I don't think he got his graphics card yet. Can I turn this into a Hackintosh? What GPU is suggested (~$200ish)? I've seen sites for a how to know if you can (given your hardware), but I haven't understood how to navigate them. Is there a Hackintosh for dummies type website someone can link to me? Good wifi solution UNDER 40$?
Image
I finished my Sierra build early this morning, but it’s useless without Wifi. Issue is, every USB dongle I have is incompatible and I don’t have any PCI solutions. I’m not allowed to use ethernet (my dad is hyper controlling). There will probably be a 5$ activation fee when I get the visa card. I’d prefer PCI, but if it must be a USB dongle so be it. People on the insanelymac discord server told me that Apple Airports are good but I have no clue what to look for (I’ve seen them on eBay from 20$ - 140$- mostly around 20$-40$). Surface Pro 6 and virtual machine Mac OS
Image
I am currently running a Surface Pro 6, i7 processor, 16 gb ram with an intel UHD Graphics 620 card. I am trying to either dual boot or virtual machine run Mac OS. I am using VMWorkstation Pro to run a virtual Mac OS high Sierra, with VMTools and beam off both installed. The system runs but is very laggy and kind of jumpy. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this issue. Ideally I would like to run a dual boot system, but I don’t mind a virtual machine if it runs better than it is running now. I was reading up on it and it seemed like it might be a hardware acceleration issue, but I am not sure I fully understand what that means except that maybe the virtual machine is not performing hardware acceleration for the guest OS. Thanks in advance for any help! I did this once before with a surface pro 4 about 2 years ago and I’m in roughly the same spot again lol. Wifi Card Clearance Help!

So I am part picking to build my Hackintosh and I have a clearance question, hopefully someone can help me. I plan on switching the onboard Intel wifi card with the BCM94360CS2 and M.2 adapter so I can have continuity and airdrop working OOB and Switching out the card is easy. The problem is that the fan that I'm going to be using is the Noctua NH-L12 (without the top fan) and The clearance from the motherboard to the heatsink is about 43mm so I wanted to know if after I install the wifi card I will have enough clearance with the CPU fan and the Wifi card. I have very limited space in the case and Really want a card that is OOB no Kexts needed in High Sierra or Mojave. So will it Fit ? any info about this is helpful.
