I.e. if I insert headphones and then select Headphones as output I can hear sound from headphones. Hackintoshing a very old laptop
Image
I have an old 2003 MacBook kicking around, as well as a 2005 VAIO. Both computers are totally borked, beyond rescue with upgrades. However, these old cases are pretty thick and chunky — I'm thinking it might be an interesting project to stick new, smaller laptop components in them and make brand new computers. Preferably running MacOS, but I'd take Linux in a pinch. I know laptop cases are very tight and are designed specifically for the components intended for them, but with thicker cases and a 3D printer, surely something can be done with them? submitted by /u/D34N2 [link] [comments] [► Source]
Wifi logo changed. How can I change it back?
Image
Hey! So I put together a brand new hack and love it. Works really well. However, the first time I loaded up the OS, I put in my USB wifi dongle (Archer T2U Nano) and it didn’t work. I tried installing the driver/software for it in which case it installs it, but then I get a message saying that the installation failed. Yet, it seems to have finished installing and it allows me to get signal and use the dongle to get on the internet! Success! The first go around, I did this and the little logo at the toolbar on the top looks exactly like the Apple logo... nice! Pictured here: https://imgur.com/a/vwdYX1o But today i decided I wanted to install the OS on a bigger hard drive, so I did a fresh install of macOS 11 on a new hard drive. When I repeated the same process for WiFi, I got a different WiFi logo at the top. Pictured here: https://imgur.com/a/9GReKy2 Anyone know how I can change this logo so it looks like the first time I did it? It must’ve been some kind of glitch but I loved t...
How to access shell in opencore system

I am inexperienced with opencore - I have a working system with catalina but I need to access shell to use bcfg to remove multiple boot entries in the UEFI. How can I make this option visible on startup (alongside the other boot options from opencore)?. I tried using an old clover EFI but only the cursor was visible in shell. Audio lagging with 2 audio sources

I got my hackintosh running with my risen 3600 and rx 6800 on macOS 14.1 beta 1. Everything works great, only one thing. gaming on a hackintosh?

before you say "just game on windows", hear me out all my games support macOS, and im currently getting the parts to build an intel pc/hackintosh (i tried with an AMD cpu... yeah that didn't happen lol) I'd rather not dual boot windows, as its a hassle to do so, and if im going intel, i thought it would be worth a shot to ask my new rig is gonna have the following specs; CPU: Intel i5-10600KF (i dont need the iGPU, so theres no sense paying for one) GPU: AMD rx 580 8GB (gonna pick up a 5000 series or a 6000 series once the GPU shortage is over) MOBO: Asus PRIME z590-P LGA 1200 RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x8GB would it be like playing games on a real mac? or would i get performance issues and lag spikes? submitted by /u/vie76 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Successful Upgrade with FileVault

Recent experience: I recently undertook the project to update to the most recent OC (0.6.8), quash an issue that sometimes comes up, move to Catalina from Mojave, and also get FileVault encryption going. Updated to Big Sur Beta 11.4 and now my TP400 Bluetooth Dongle Can't Connect to Devices

I was using a UB400 Bluetooth Dongle for my bluetooth devices and they were working perfectly up until this upgrade to 11.4 to use my RX 6800. Now when I try to connect to my devices, I cannot connect to them. Is it better to install Opencore/Mac on internal SSD or NVME in a dual-boot system?
Image
Hello friends, Just wondering where to install Opencore if I'm also planning on installing Windows in my computer. I've had installs before where my Windows install (on an SSD) disappears (I get a blue screen/"OS is damaged" message) when I install Opencore in one of my NVME drives. I've also done the opposite where I have Opencore already installed on an NVME and I couldn't install Windows error message during installation ("Can't install on this partition" message). Is an NVME or SSD better? Or is there a process where I can successfully install both without Opencore moving/deleting? the Windows bootloader? submitted by /u/SayriSleeps [link] [comments] [► Source]

11.2 -> 11.3 update fails again - SIP issue?
Image
It's weird but I cannot seem to perform Big Sur updates anymore - the update downloads, the machine reboots, the update goes through the installation (progress bar with 9 minutes remaining, 8 minutes remaining, etc), but when it's done it goes straight into macOS (without rebooting) and I'm still on 11.2. And to try again I have to download the entire 6 GB update again because for some reason macOS doesn't cache the downloaded update file. This exact same thing also happened with the 11.2.1, 11.2.2 and 11.2.3 updates, under OC 0.6.6, 0.6.7 and 0.6.8. The only way I can update my OS is a complete wipe, create a new USB installer and reinstall from scratch. Is this a SIP issue? Locked OS partition? I've tried it with SIP enabled and disabled, no dice. NVRAM resets, ditto. Tried with SecureBootModel Disabled and Default both no success either. I have followed the Dortanias OC guide and have rebuilt an EFI file I recieved from another person only to have the boot hang up on "PCI Confiiguration End" and that's only after I entered the boot arg "npci=0x3000" I'm not sure what to do or what I'm doing wrong? The laptop that the efi file originally came from isn't the exact model as mine (mine is the 17.3" model and their model is the 15.6" model, but we have identical hardware and drivers (they have an i7 9300H and I have an i5-9300H) even with different CPU's dortania's guide has me pick the same SSDT and Kexts for my CPU (there both Coffee Lake Plus) So I'm sure it can't be the issue. I've almost given up at this point, but I won't do that. I have tried booting in Safe Mode "-x" and I have been troubleshooting for 3days straight from morning till night and even right now in the middle of the night. Just finishing a dual boot hack for video editing. Need help with scratch disk and hard drive setup!
Image
I’ve got everything set up for the most part and really happy with my build and config. However, I’m thinking about buying brand new hard drives: 1 SATA III for Mac (500gb), 1 SATA III for Windows (500gb), and then 1 M.2 (1TB) to use as a shared scratch disk for all video editing purposes. There may be other configurations that work but this is how I see it working best. I’m using a Gigabyte z490 Vision G motherboard, which has a couple M.2 slots. I want to set this up for the best/fastest possible workflow for editing on both the Mac side and Windows side. I imagine that making the M.2 be the scaratch disk, while keeping the OS’s on the SATA SSDs will be the best possible thing to do. Curious to know how you’d set up your scratch disk given these options? Additionally, is it possible to be able to have a shared hard drive that can act as a scratch disk for editing software from both my Mac side and and my Windows side? submitted by /u/vinersking [link] [comments] [► S...

Lenovo M73 Hackintosh
Image
So I've managed to get my M73 running Big Sur and so far mostly everything works aside from iMessage/FaceTime, I found a guide on how to fix that but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. The problem I've run into is the WiFi. The M73 has a BIOS whitelist for WiFi cards and will only accept certain ones, so I'm trying to find a Mini PCI-E card that has both WiFi + Bluetooth, will support unlocking with an Apple Watch, and is on the BIOS whitelist. I searched and found a few posts on the M73 on here but nothing that covered this particular subject, so I figured I'd ask and see if anyone has been down this road before. I've been looking at the Broadcom Bcm94352hmb card because as near as I can tell it's on the whitelist, but it looks like it has some issues where you have to constantly disable/re-enable unlocking with Apple Watch because it stops working. My other option is to bypass the BIOS whitelist, I actually bookmarked a couple posts I found on thi...
Big Sur Move /User to External HDD Using fstab

Ever since Snow Leopard up until Catalina, I've moved my /Users directory to an external drive and used fstab to auto mount. I had just (painfully) updated to Big Sur and I'm having trouble doing this. I got fstab set up, I reboot into Recovery and delete the new /Users directory, reboot, login, then it's just stuck in a spinning wheel. I tried not deleting the new /Users and it would log in successfully, but my external drive will be mounted in /Volumes/Users I believe iiuc the root directory is no longer writable in Big Sur.
