I need help
Image
i need help. so recently I downloaded Big Sur on my old MacBook the wasn’t supported which was running fine, but then it kept asking me to update to macOS Tahoe, which obviously I didn’t. But I also had the official app to download macOS sequoia so my stupid self did that and downloaded it. I wake up and I see it. It isn’t showing me the setup wizard it’s just on the Lock Screen and it’s frozen and all I see is sequoia trees, and the only thing that works is the time and the password thing blinking. So can someone please tell me how to go back to El Capitan, also the recovery thing doesn’t work it shows me a few options but none of them do anything so pls help submitted by /u/Fickle-Squirrel-6144 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Solution for correct password rejected after Tahoe download / partial install.
Image
I recent had this issue and have seen others post with similar issues. The scenario- Tahoe downloaded automatically which I ignored for a couple of days and then I foolishly opted to install. (We all know by now not to let this happen). Computer rebooted and Tahoe did not install, but just booted to my regular Sequoia login screen- except now my password doesn't work. Solution- Disable FileVault in the Terminal in recovery mode: https://www.ichi.co.uk/blog/removing-file-vault-from-internet-recovery-console It took a couple of hours but worked for me. I beleive the issue stems from Tahoe automatically enabling filevault pre-installation, but it only supports hardware encryption which my computer doesn't support. submitted by /u/morethanyouare [link] [comments] [► Source]
Password no longer recognized
Image
Been running Sequoia 15.7.1 with OpenCore 2.4.1. on a 2014 MacBook Pro 11,3. Been working really well til today. I rebooted the Mac but it no longer recognized my password. A correct password. Spent half a day trying to trouble shoot this but gave up and tried to reinstall OCLP. However in Recovery Mode there is no WiFi and it will not use the Ethernet connection either; it just says no internet connection. (if you go into the native recovery mode and use the network app both WiFi and Ethernet seem to work fine). I will not erase this Mac and start over as this also has Windows 11 on it which works great. I just need to get oclp back working again. submitted by /u/CriminalDeceny616 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Why is this 27" iMac 2009 glitching out?
Image
This is an Intel Core 2 Duo model with an ATI Radeon HD 4670 (256 MB VRAM) and 14 GB of RAM, but I have the exact same problem on a Core i5 from that year with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 (512 MB VRAM) and 24 GB of RAM. They both have a High Sierra (native), a Catalina (DosDude-Patch) and a third partition for Big Sur (OCLP). When I boot Big Sur, it starts fine, but after a while or maybe when I activate sth graphic "intensive" like the Launchpad or when I use Exposé with Hot Corners or run Freetube with a video, it starts glitching and then never stops again. The system becomes unusable and I have to reboot. I know about limitations regarding non-Metal GPU's. But I don't have these glitches on other models with non-Metal GPU's on OCLP installs. (Of course, Maps e. g. is empty, but it won't start glitching.) I read many posts here and nobody seems to have this problem (anymore). Apparently OCLP fixed certain glitches. I used the latest patch program to in...
Help / Macbook Pro 2009 Mid

Hello. My friend gave me his 2009 MacBook Pro that he wasn't using. After some research, I upgraded the RAM and installed an SSD. However, the SSD I installed had Windows installed on it. When I try to install it now, I can't install it because there is no GUID partition. My Macbook is also very old and won't let me. I don't know how to fix this. Can you help me? submitted by /u/Eastern-Ad-1974 [link] [comments] [► Source]
EFI boot on hard drive after install - Help?
Image
After a successful Sequoia install, the OpenCore Patcher app opened again. I thought it was root patching but it was indeed I believe installing the EFI boot on my hard drive. (I realized this too late to stop the process.) I then did the root patch successfully after that. So do I have to do a fresh install of Sequoia or can I remove the EFI boot file, or doesn't it matter? submitted by /u/MinisculeManticore [link] [comments] [► Source]

The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.Buildinfo.preflight.error error 21.)
Image
Hi there, I wanted to post this as I believe it relates directly to what u/MrMacintoshBlog posted recently about macOS Tahoe being applied to your Mac without your input. If you happen to see this error, in my opinion it seems like macOS Tahoe has been prepared on your legacy Mac that is using OCLP, whether you wanted it to or not: The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.Buildinfo.preflight.error error 21.) I've solved this issue happening on my 2012 Mac Pro (but it involved formatting the drive and installing macOS 15.7.2 again): where I was using macOS 15.7.1, when randomly it stopped booting up all the way and was stuck on a progress bar booting indefinitely (if I let it). Through troubleshooting, I was able to create a 15.7.1 on a usb flash drive, and when I got to the recoveryOS to reinstall macOS, it said "this volume cannot be downgraded" which was odd to me. In Disk Utility, it also showed it was still a bootable 15.7.1 volume. During more...
is FileVault safe to use with opencore?
Image
heads up, i fixed this problem already and am running my macbook without any issues now. i'm just curious to see if anyone knows what happened. i have a 2016 macbook pro which i've been running opencore on for a long time. i usually don't encounter issues on it at all but i keep everything backed up anyways just in case. i keep filevault on because i take my mac outside and i want it to be secure as possible with opencore on it. i keep a firmware password on as well. anyways, around 2-3 weeks ago i turned on my computer as usual and everything was super slow loading up on macos. lo and behold, none of my passwords worked. i was pretty confused as to what the hell was going on and tried the passwords on all accounts, to no avail. i am confident they were the right passwords. i couldnt go to recovery because it isn't root patched, so i can't use wifi. it wouldn't recognize any decryptable accounts there either, making me sign in with apple id which i couldnt do w...

Any issues installing opencore over dosdude?
Image
I have a older intel mac mini that I installed dosdude's distribution on. I think it was Mojave, but if it's pertinent I will exact details. Even after running the patches I have a blue tint/hue to my display. Would there be any issues just installing via usb opencore (not sure how much of the firmware or other crucial systems are affected) over my dosdude install? submitted by /u/dpatson [link] [comments] [► Source]
[I f**ked up] MacBook 2015 upgrading to Tahoe

Heya Everyone, I had the Sonoma installed using OCLP on my MacBook 2015 which has Dual Graphics I tried stunts of downloading macOS Tahoe on a different machine and creating USB using OCLP. The installation completed but I was presented with Apple logo and stuck on "Voice Over" screen. I took another USB and tried to install macOS Monterey ( fresh install ) but same thing, stuck on "Voice Over" I am sure it has to do with my external graphics card. What's the workaround this ? Monterey in a 2008 iMac
Image
A while ago I installed an SSD and 16GB of RAM on my 2008 iMac, upgrading it to Sequoia. This caused a lot of heat and fan noise, so I downgraded to El Capitan, but many things aren't compatible. I was wondering if Monterey maintains a balance between compatibility and performance, or if you recommend a different version that performs better. submitted by /u/enh4pp1f13er [link] [comments] [► Source]

I Have decided no longer to use OCLP in my current setup for legacy and stability reasons
Image
Hey all, writing this after a couple years of back and forth between OCLP, and last supported (Monterey) setups. While I appreciate the work done on OCLP, and what it intends to bring to the community, and while I still plan on following the community and work being done, I myself have come to the conclusion that for my needs, staying on Monterey is the overall best, and most stable solution. I have a late 2015, 27" iMac, and while Sequoia is usable on this machine as a daily driver. There are just some things about newer macOS that aren't favorable for me. The fact that some of the core graphics functions don't work on a patched OS (OCLP specific to this iMac model) Changes Apple has made to the OS, regarding legacy support for certain software / hardware that I have (Would also affect the decision to buy a new Mac) After re-evaluating my specific needs, and real-world day to day use, everything I need still functions on Monterey, and in many cases older. I have a f...

Hi everyone, I wanted to do a fresh install from Monterey, also installed with OCLP, to Sonoma. It took a long while and when I came back i got the error: An error occurred preparing the software update. Is this macbook not supported for this high of an OS or do I just have bad luck and need to try it again? If someone has some advice about this that would be great! Sonoma on 2015 MacBook Air
Image
New battery and thermal paste Runs decently well, and is not significantly slower than Monterey. Day to day web browsing is pleasant with no noticable slowdowns. Only thing is Safari can be quite sluggish, so I used Firefox (despite potentially higher RAM usage, performance was overall more consistent) Ventura ran fine too, but Sequoia was painful. So I'll just stick with Sonoma as the perfect middle ground of features and performance submitted by /u/boeing_a380 [link] [comments] [► Source]

HELP I keep getting this error code and I need to upgrade to Ventura
Image
So I have the MacBook Air Early 2014 11 Inch. It's on Big Sur rn and I need to upgrade cause literally nothing works here so I downloaded OCLP and tried to download the installer for Ventura cause I had later versions on the Mac before and they were laggy. But as soon as the download gets halfway it shows this error code and then just stops and it does this with the later versions too. I have now tried downloading Sonoma,Monterey and sequoia even and they all end up with this error code . So is it OCLP that is not allowing me to download the installer or am I doing something wrong ? I even tried downloading an older beta version of Sonoma but it didn't boot on the Mac and that was a nightmare trying to get the Mac back to Big Sur, sorry for the long rant but I would really appreciate the help !! Thanks in Advance ! submitted by /u/ApprehensiveOne713 [link] [comments] [► Source]
Help update

Hey So I’m in a big predicament, I wanted to downgrade to Mojave or Catalina because of temperature and overall performance (I’m on Big Sur and I have a 11 inch early 2014 MacBook Air) but every app is telling me Big Sur is already out of support, google, steam,ChatGPT,Spotify, menubarx, So I want to use open core legacy patcher to update a lil further but my Mac runs hot as it is,it burns and fans kick in for everything, until I upgrade my computer do I downgrade if so what and have 0 support or upgrade os, if I do which version, (ps I don’t have enough storage to have windows dual boot) submitted by /u/LexWR41TH [link] [comments] [► Source]
