Installing macOS on PC: A Step-by-Step Guides
I recent had this issue and have seen others post with similar issues.
The scenario- Tahoe downloaded automatically which I ignored for a couple of days and then I foolishly opted to install. (We all know by now not to let this happen). Computer rebooted and Tahoe did not install, but just booted to my regular Sequoia login screen- except now my password doesn't work.
Solution- Disable FileVault in the Terminal in recovery mode: https://www.ichi.co.uk/blog/removing-file-vault-from-internet-recovery-console
It took a couple of hours but worked for me. I beleive the issue stems from Tahoe automatically enabling filevault pre-installation, but it only supports hardware encryption which my computer doesn't support.
