AMD APU A4-5300 works great with HD 4850

Let me start off by saying I was ready to shell out 500+ dollars on an intel build. But I had an old A4 APU and my tank of a Graphics card HD 4850 1GB from my first ever build.

Build was for the GF and spent a few days researching intel parts, craigslist, buildapcsales and couldn't really stay within budget. Enter my old htpc. There really wasn't much info on Clean Installs so I ended up using Hackintosh Zone.

Build:

  • MSI FM2-A55M-E33 Micro ATX Motherboard
  • AMD A4-5300 APU (3.4 GHZ dual core)
  • Stock CPU Cooler
  • 4850 HD 1GB Graphics Card
  • 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 RAM
  • 240GB Sandisk Plus SSD
  • 430CX Corsair Powersupply
  • Antec VSK4000E Case

-I'm still very new to hackintosh's and tbh i can't believe it even booted. Ethernet works, Sound works but is kind of low (Still testing). So far no issues.

-I did have an issue with the install at first with 'pci configuration begin' which i got fixed by adding 'npci=0x3000' to my boot flags

-I would also have the installer hang at 2 minutes remaining and displaying 'The OS X installation couldn't be completed' . Found a post somewhere to redo the install without erasing the hard drive and using the same boot flags that you've used before. I guess the installer installs any missing files. Booted into the hard drive after and voila it works.

-Also once I booted I had mouse lag which would freeze the mouse every few seconds. Very annoying. Fixed by adding 'Graphicsenabler=no'

-Boot flags I used were /amd -npci=0x3000 graphicsenabler=no

Hope this helps document that the AMD a4 apu works for anyone looking for future help. AMA if you have any questions.
