This is my first Mac. I need some advice and realize this could be a noob mistake so I'd really appreciate it. I spent about 3 hours so far trying to get this to work.
Anyway, here's a quick rundown of everything. I bought a refurbished Mac Mini 2011 equipped with 8gb ram, i5, and 250gb SSD (Samsung Evo)
Timeline of events
Initial setup was a success and I was able to use it, install a bunch of apps, browse the internet, etc.
A day later, it wouldn't be able to load chrome and safari or just crash certain apps randomly. Then it would reboot out of nowhere every so often which eventually turned to every 5 minutes.
I found out there were some disk issues after scanning so I went into disk utility and did the repairs which were all successful.
Unforunately, the issues remained. I updated everything, repaired again, etc
I finally decided to reinstall Sierra
I look up some guide and follow it so I reboot, go into recovery mode and I erase "Mac OS" under my SSD
I then go to reinstall option and choose to install it at same "Mac OS" SSD location
The installation process reboots around the "12 minutes remaining" mark several times
The installation process has errors or just takes forever to load. I check hardware diagnostics by holding (D) per it's recommendation.
I forget to write it down but it's basically a black screen with something like "product driver error, status = e"
I use the internet recovery option but that doesn't work either
I tinker with all these various configurations and restore "Mac OS" from the base os x. It stalls.
TLDR: Bought refurbished mac mini, it kept rebooting/crashing, I decide to reinstall Sierra after wiping the SSD startup disc. I'm unable to install it and now wondering if it's the case that I need a USB flash drive. Would this mean I can't actually install Sierra on my startup disc and boot from it at the same time like I've been trying to do?
I'll be buying a USB flash drive later today anyway as a last resort. Thank you!
