Recently I've been having a strange issue on my hackintosh. My mac partition was only booting with strange flags that weren't needed before. I tried booting without the graphics card, but couldn't get it to output through the HDMI. I replaced the graphics card (GTX 980), and tried new flags. When I finally got into the login screen, it displayed the symptoms of out of date NVidia drivers. I updated and restarted, but couldn't select the web drivers, so I stuck with the OS X drivers.
I was also using my windows partition a lot during this time. Windows started booting in 800x600, and I would intermittently get the Code 43 error on my graphics card. It started happening more often, and is now the norm. I narrowed it down to being an insufficient PSU, a bad PCIe slot, or a bad graphics card. This led me to look at the wattage for the CPU and GPU. They totaled 688W at max, and my PSU was only a 650.
I ordered an EVGA 750 GQ from amazon warehouse deals, plugged it in, set everything up, and tried booting. The machine would fire up for ~5 seconds, then die. Startup, then die, startup ten die...etc. I figured it was a bad PSU, sent it back, and ordered another. Now this one (same model) lights the LED for the front and motherboard on buttons, but pressing them does nothing. Did I get another bad PSU? Was that the original cause of my problems, I hadn't had an issue of this sort until then.
