T520 - Snow Leopard possible?

I'm currently on a Thinkpad T520 - the dual core model with the i7-2630qm. I'm dual booting Windows XP and Windows 7 at the moment. I'd like to install Snow Leopard for compatibility reasons (rosetta) and also because I don't need to run modern software as this is something I won't be using often, I just need basic older apps like iLife 11 and FCP7. I'm able to install 10.6 using iBoot and it works fine. I cannot update to 10.6.8 without it kernel panicking midway through, even with UpdateHelper.

I need help for two reasons: 1, is how do I go about updating to 10.6.8 successfully on this system? Any tips?

Secondly, I'm stuck at 1024x768. Obviously my graphics aren't working. The GPUs in this system are Intel HD 3000 and Nvidia NVS 4200M. Is there any solution for these in Snow Leopard?

Otherwise, the processor, sound, ethernet work perfectly fine

What do you suggest I do to get graphics working in Snow Leopard on my system, as well as get it to 10.6.8? I'm looking for an answer besides "Use a newer OS" if possible, I don't want to lose my compatibility.
