OpenCore misconfiguration cannot locate HfsPlus.efi (yes I tried the fix in the troubleshooting guide)
Image
Hello everyone, I was setting up a dev environment (flutter) on my machine and ran into some problems. Long story short, I decided to back up all important files and reinstall Ventura (13.6.3) in order to get a fresh start. After making the installer usb on my Macbook, I copied the EFI folder from the (then) working installation and proceeded to boot from it into the installer with out issues. After wiping the ssd and reformatting it to APFS, I tried to install macOS, but received an error that halted the installation. Upon rebooting, I was met with the error in the title which has a solution here which did not work. So I found the binary of HfsPlus.efi , replaced the file, then opened the config.plist, deleted the corresponding entry, and did an OC snapshot (ProperTree) before replacing the EFI on the drive with the newer modified EFI. This did not work, so I repeated the process with a clean OC snapshot which failed to boot with the same error. I want to stress that the only modifi...

SSD not showing in disk management/install loop
Image
I am installing Ventura on my MacBook Pro 11,1, and am upgrading the stock SSD to a new one with an adapter . When installing Ventura via USB, it gets stuck in a boot loop where it brings me back to the install ventura screen. When I enter recovery mode, the SSD does not show up when internally installed but does when plugged in externally. I have tried other SSDs but have the same issue. I was able to install ventura on the SSD externally, but it would not recognize it when moved internally. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/Comfortable-Heron-72 [link] [comments] [► Source]

MacMini8,1 allows passkeys use, but no authentication required (anyone can use them on my Hackintosh?)
Image
Hello everyone, I've had an issue that's bugging me and no true solution or reference found on-line. Running Ventura latest 13.6.4 on Intel NUC10i5FNH (OpenCore 0.9.5 etc.) and since Montery, I have enabled passkeys (via "auto-fill" as requested via Keychain) on my iCloud account, including my iDevices. However, from the first use as I remember, the prompt on websites (that support passkeys obviously and on which I have created one e.g. Amazon, in this example) do not prompt me for any kind of authentication. After creating a passkey on Amazon, eBay, etc. on Safari, which is stored OK in my Keychain and sync'ed across my Apple ID account-linked devices, on my hackintosh I am offered to use the passkey without any method of authentication whatsoever (in view of the obvious lack of Touch ID). Is this normal, expected? Should I stop using passkeys as my hackintosh is not protecting them? This Support article doesn't help much, and passkeys apparen...
GPU Compatibility in Monterey using OCLP
Image
Hi, I read through this page around GPU compatibility and came across the agdpmod=pikera boot prompt for Series 5000 GPUs. I only find threads around this in the hackintosh sub-reddit so I’m not sure whether this also applies to Mac. My plan is to upgrade my Mac Pro 5,1 to Monterey using OCLP and then getting an RX 5700. And if this also applies here, is there a guide on how to achieve compatibility? Thanks so much for your help! submitted by /u/Flat-Ad-5816 [link] [comments] [► Source]

OLCP on 12,1 imac and ventura

I have two 12,1 imac's running Ventura 13.6 via OLCP. I am having issues with the photos app on both machines. I see all photos as a thumbnail fine. when I expand or double click on a photo, it views for a split second and then disappears (goes blank). Additionally, if I choose one of the thumbnails and export, the exported photo is just a black image. I have rebuilt the photos library a couple of times via Command + Option keys on startup of photos. Doesn't help. off-screen kernel panic
Image
I have a Xeon E5-1603 with a GeForce 210 not even running macOS Monterey rn. After "patching" the system (more like placing nvidia tesla kexts in /System/Library/Extensions) and removing the VESA boot-arg, it gets halfway through the progress and then shuts the screen off and kernel panics off-screen because the panic logs are saved somewhere in the preboot partition and it gives me the screen that the system "rebooted because of a problem". I've tried the High Sierra installer which natively supports Tesla chipsets, same behavior. I could send you my config.plist if needed. submitted by /u/Potential-Training-8 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Force Quit WindowsServer to deal with IntelBluetooth post wake issues
Image
I recently updated from Big Sur to Ventura on my laptop hack and bluetooth works fine just like Big Sur. Except for one thing, after sleep, you have to toggle it off and on again or use the command sudo pkill bluetoothd for it to work or else it shows toggled on but can't connect, so I assume it has some issues with starting up bluetoothd after wake. Sometimes however, bluetooth completely fails to start/connect to devices even after the on off toggle or using sudo pkill bluetoothd and the OS needs to be restarted. But if instead of rebooting the OS, if we force quit WindowsServer, which automatically logs you out of the system and kills all apps/processes, the bluetooth process is restarted and works again. Not sure if this is a known issue as I couldn't find much around. I'm also not sure if force quitting WindowsServer causes any significant downsides as the only thing I know is that it is related to display and as far as you don't have any important process/ap...

Fixing High CPU Usage on NootRX with MacOS Ventura
Image
Guide: If you're experiencing high CPU usage on NootRX with MacOS Ventura, particularly when the GPU is underutilized, follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. Check GPU Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest GPU drivers installed for your graphics card. Sometimes outdated or incompatible drivers can cause the GPU to be underutilized. 2. Configure Graphics Settings: Access the graphics settings in MacOS Ventura and configure them to prioritize GPU usage over CPU for rendering tasks. You may need to adjust settings related to graphics acceleration or hardware acceleration in system preferences or specific applications. 3. Update Applications: Ensure that all applications, including NootRX, are up to date. Sometimes software updates include performance optimizations that can help alleviate high CPU usage. 4. Verify GPU Utilization: Use monitoring tools or utilities to verify the utilization of your GPU. This can help confirm whether the GPU is indeed...

Reviving an Old Core Duo White MacBook: Exploring OS Options
Image
Guide: If you're looking to breathe new life into your old Core Duo MacBook from 2006, there are indeed a few options you can explore beyond its original macOS Snow Leopard. Here's a guide to help you consider your options: 1. macOS: While your MacBook is limited to running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) officially, there are ways to potentially install older versions of macOS using workarounds or patches. However, compatibility and performance may vary, and it's essential to proceed with caution as these methods may not be officially supported. 2. Linux: Linux distributions are a popular choice for reviving older hardware like your Core Duo MacBook. Lightweight distributions such as Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, or Linux Mint XFCE Edition can offer a modern and functional computing experience while being optimized for older hardware. 3. Other Operating Systems: You may also consider alternative operating systems designed for older hardware, such as FreeBSD or OpenBSD, which can...
