Any help on installing the public beta on my Mac?

For my MacBookPro10,1 I've got sequoia 15.5 running with Opencore 2.4.0 and it recognizes my AKiTiO Thunder2 Duo Pro hdmi but I can't get the HDMI port to put out video when the hub is connected via both the USB 3.0 or the thunderbolt. The discrete nvidia M650 is running off the HDMI port on the macbook but I'm not sure why video throughput isn't working. When connecting via thunderbolt, both ports status is "no devide connected" but I can see the drive within the enclosure.
| Just updated MBP 2017 to sequoia and getting this when booting up? [link] [comments] |
Basically got a nice deal for this and that's my first MacBook
It came with OCLP and Monterey However I wanted to remove all and clean the laptop and then reinstall fresh just to be safer
Can someone tell me what should I do? Should I create a bootable USB for big sur first ? Since that was the last one that it was able to run without OCLP?
Hi everyone. First post on this sub.
I recently got gifted a Late 2012 Mac Mini (Macmini6,2; I think it’s the server model?) which has an i7, 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, and wanted to try and use OCLP to update it to Sequoia/Sonoma, but I'm having a strange issue with it.
Right now the only other MacOS device I have is a 2009 MBP (MacBookPro5,3), so I used that to fill up a spare USB with software to install on the Mini. When I got it I installed OCLP and installed it to the drive, then used a pre-formatted USB with Sequoia and tried to install it. However, midway through the install it rebooted and then booted from the internal SSD, giving me a 30 minute timer. Midway through that, however, I got an error with a blank app icon which just said "an error occoured preparing the software update".
I've been trying to troubleshoot all day, rebuilding and flashing installs to USB and ensuring I have the right device selected on my MBP when building, but the same issue seems to persist regadless of what I try to install.
As of now the last OS I tried was Sonoma 14.7.6 Via a USB, and although it went pretty far, it also seemed to suddenly restart towards the end of the install (with about ~13 minutes remaining), booted from the internal SSD, started the "about 30 minutes left" timer, and errored out the same way.
I've tried about everything I can to run a modern MacOS build on this machine, but I don't understand why it's giving me such a hard time. I was able to install Ventura on my 2009 MBP rather easily (which I also upgraded with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD), yet this machine is giving me much more headache than I thought possible.
Would anyone be able to push me in the right direction? 🥲
I’m going to go to sequoia today hopefully everything works fine but how would I go back to Ventura if I decide it’s not working for me?
What do you think will be the performance of a mac pro with dual Xeon 6+6 cores, 48gb of ram and a Ati Rdeon HD 5570?
The macOS Sequoia 15.6 installer was successfully downloaded and the update was performed using OCLP 2.4.0. Everything went smoothly, and the system is running without issues and performs smoothly on the MacBook Air 2017."
| Yesterday I installed Monterey successfully on a Mac Pro 5,1 with opencore with an amd rx 580. But I don’t know why the monitor I’m using keeps flickering black at random times, it’s getting really annoying. I tried changing the port from both the monitor and the computer and it’s still doing it, why’s this happening or how can I make it so it stops doing this? It’s weird because yesterday it was doing this for a while and after I put it to sleep and wake it up, it didn’t do it ever again for a few hours until i turned it off but today nothing I tried yesterday seems to work. I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with an Intel i7, 250GB SSD, and 16GB RAM. Currently running macOS Ventura and it's working fine overall.
I'm thinking about updating to Sequoia using OpenCore Legacy Patcher since Apple dropped support for this model. Just wondering if it's worth it or not.
Main questions:
Would appreciate any feedback from people who’ve done this on similar hardware. Just trying to decide if it’s worth the effort or better to stay on Ventura for now.
Thanks.
| I tried the dosdude tutorial and it didn't work, it doesn't boot to recovery or the os, only to single person mode. It also doesn't want to turn on at all most times. Is there any way I can disable the gpu with oclp? [link] [comments] |
I’ve been trying to figure this out for a few hours. I have a MacBook 2015? I think I don’t know the person I bought it off of lied to me. When i try to download macOS Ventura It tells me I need Mac OS 10.2? Is there anyway to get past this or should I scrap it :/
Press and hold the Touch ID/Power button for 10-15 seconds
Release when the screen goes completely black
Wait 10 seconds, then press Power again to restart
(Note: This won’t delete data)
Shut down your Mac
Press the Power button, then immediately hold Shift

Open Terminal (Finder → Applications → Utilities)
Run these commands:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AMDRadeon*.kext sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/NVDA*.kext sudo kextcache -i /
Enter your admin password when prompted
(Removes graphics drivers causing freezes)
Download the OFFICIAL OCLP 2.4.0 from:
dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher
(Avoid third-party mirrors!)
Launch OCLP → Click ⚙️ Settings → Enable:
Verbose mode
Skip USB patches
Disable "Install Graphics Support"
Click Build and Install Root Patches
DO NOT TOUCH the Mac during installation (15-20 min)
After successful patching, shut down your Mac
Press Power, then hold Option + Command + P + R
Hold for 20 seconds until you hear the startup chime twice
Release to boot normally
(Clears outdated firmware settings)
Internet Recovery Mode:
Restart → Hold Option + Command + R
Select "Reinstall macOS" → DO NOT ERASE DISK
Terminal Reset:
In Recovery:
mount -uw / rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AMDLegacy* kextcache --clear-staging reboot
Always back up with Time Machine before patching
Use wired Ethernet during patching (WiFi may cause timeouts)
Disable FileVault and Secure Boot temporarily in Recovery:Settings → Security → Allow user management of kernel extensions
Critical Note:
If your MacBook Pro has dual GPUs (Intel + Radeon), avoid graphics patching until OCLP releases a Sequoia-compatible update. Monitor fixes here:
OCLP 2.4.1 Tracking Issue
Expected Outcome:
Your MacBook Pro (2017) should boot normally into macOS Sequoia 15.6 with full functionality. Monitor system stability for 24 hours before re-enabling FileVault/Secure Boot.

| Hello - new to OCLP, just installed Sequoia on my mid-2012 Macbook Pro. So far, so good - but I did notice this "rm" Unix Executable File selected ON Allow in the Background. I have no idea what this means... can you explain? Keep ON or toggle OFF?? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
| | Hello folks, just installed Mac OS 15.5 on a MBP 2016 13" (lowest configuration) a few days ago. Today I saw that Apple released the new 15.6. Did anyone do the update today? Wondering if everything works. I read on another thread that updating through the native Apple softwareupdater in the settings is possible, but not recommended by OLPC developers. Any thoughts about this? How do you update smaller Mac updates on patched Macs? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro 15" mid 2015, 2.8 GHz i7 (DG)
Does some have the same MBP and installed Sonoma 14.7.7 already?
Does it work without problems?
| I have an old MacBook Pro 8,1 (Early 2011) that I decided to update with Open Core Legacy Patcher to MacOS Ventura , but after that MacBook can’t find any wireless keyboard. It connects to wireless earbuds normally but won’t show any keyboard. I have tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM also root patch again on OCLP but nothing seems to work. The keyboard is working fine on my other M3 Air. [link] [comments] |
Key Error:
OCSMC: SmcReadValue Key 4D534163 Size 2 – Not Found "An error occurred preparing the software update"
Cause: VirtualSMC misconfiguration or missing SMC keys during Sequoia’s second-stage installation.
Use OpenCore 1.0.5+ (latest nightly build recommended):
Download: OpenCore 1.0.5+
Update Critical Kexts:
Lilu (v1.6.8+)
VirtualSMC (v1.3.3+)
WhateverGreen (v1.6.7+)
RestrictEvents (v1.1.3+)
The error 4D534163 (ASCII: MSAc) indicates a missing memory temperature sensor key. Add it manually:
In your EFI/OC folder:
Open config.plist with ProperTree.
Navigate to:DeviceProperties → Add → PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1F,0x3)
Add this property (if missing):
<key>smc-compatible</key> <string>smc-z390</string>
Force-add the SMC key:
Download SSDT-SMC-Fix.aml
Place in EFI/OC/ACPI and enable in config.plist → ACPI → Add.
Critical Settings in config.plist:
| Section | Key | Value |
|---|---|---|
Booter → Quirks | DevirtualiseMmio | True |
Booter → Quirks | EnableWriteUnprotector | False |
Booter → Quirks | RebuildAppleMemoryMap | True |
Booter → Quirks | SetupVirtualMap | True |
Kernel → Quirks | CustomSMBIOSGuid | True |
NVRAM → Add → 7C4... | boot-args | -ctrsmt agdpmod=pikera -v |
Use GenSMBIOS:
Generate valid SMBIOS for iMac19,1 (avoid generic Type1 values).
In config.plist → PlatformInfo:
Set Generic → AdviseFeatures = False
Set Generic → ProcessorType = 0 (auto-detect)
Set Generic → SystemMemoryStatus = Auto
Remove:
SMCProcessor.kext (conflicts with VirtualSMC on desktop CPUs)
SMCSuperIO.kext (not needed for Z390)
Keep ONLY these Drivers:
OpenRuntime.efi
OpenCanopy.efi
HfsPlus.efi
Format USB as FAT32:
diskutil eraseDisk FAT32 SEQUOIA MBRFormat /dev/diskX
Use GibMacOS to download Sequoia 15.5.
Build installer with:
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sequoia.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/SEQUOIA
Boot USB → OpenCore Picker → Verbose (-v).
If installer fails, check logs:
Press Ctrl+C during failure to capture error.
Upload to pastebin.com.
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
Stuck at OCSMC: SmcReadValue | Use SSDT-SMC-Fix.aml |
| Installer reboots prematurely | Disable EnableWriteUnprotector |
| Kernel panics | Set RebuildAppleMemoryMap=True |
| USB issues | Map ports with USBToolBox |
BIOS Settings for Z390 Designare:
Disable: Fast Boot, VT-d, CFG Lock, Serial/COM Ports.
Enable: Above 4G Decoding, XHCI Handoff.
Reset NVRAM at OpenCore Picker.
Test RAM: Use MemTest86 (128GB kits often need manual voltage/timing).
Note: Sequoia’s installer is stricter about SMC emulation than Sonoma. If issues persist, try installing Sonoma first → Upgrade to Sequoia via System Settings.
Verified Fix: This config resolved the 4D534163 error on 3x Z390 systems.
