Is it worth to upgrade from Sequoia to Tahoe in consideration of privacy.
Image
I know everything is coming in to AI. I am very big on the security. Currently it seem like OSX is like becoming Windows in privacy. I am old school, where windows 95 was best and still it is in privacy as separate the OS with application from the user data. Now on top of it cloud connections with multi factor authentications. Too much of the things to handle will using computer. That why i change to OSX and now thinking to transit on Fedora or Ubuntu. But Apple echo system is holding me down. So want to know from OCLP developer perspective on upgrading to Tahoe in future, is the OSX is getting better or more convoluted? Example of Convoluted = As one Apple icloud account works on 2 mac, you can access other mac user folder full access, without SMB sharing but work like SMB sharing. Eventhough you do SMB Sharing on top, it doesn't override, instead it works as additional layer. There SMB Layer turn off or stay on, in both case icloud override. At least as per last check on the OS...

Question about GPU for Mac Pro 3.1
Image
I have a Mac Pro 3.1 and also have a ASUS GTX 780. I found online that it is supported in later macOS without a boot screen. Now the problem is: the GPU has 1 6pin power connector and 1 8pin. Can I use a cable like the one I’ve linked to? I won’t be using a lot of processing power. Only like to play around a bit with Xcode. submitted by /u/klokkert1 [link] [comments] [► Source]
Apple apps (Final Cut, Motion, and Compressor) Crashing on OCLP-patched iMac running Sequoia
Image
I completed installation of Sequoia on my late 2013 iMac 27". I've installed apps that work with no trouble - except for Final Cut, Motion, and Compressor, all of which were downloaded from the App Store. They all quit with the first attempted click. I've tried deleting the preferences (holding Command+Option when they are launching) and it's made no difference. DaVinci Resolve works just fine, but I have a project to complete in FCPX, with some input from Motion. Any ideas, anyone? I'm running out of time. Random Freezing/Crashes on mid-2010 MacBook w/ OCLP 2.4.1/Monterey 12.7.6
Image
i recently got this macbook (7,1 a1342 mid-2010) and used OCLP 2.4.1 to install monterey 12.7.4. i then updated to monterey 12.7.6 via system settings, and installed the root patches afterwards. the machine has been upgraded to 16gb ram (not sure brand, etc) and an OWC mercury electra 3g SSD. the disc drive has also been disconnected/removed. everything else is stock. i don't do anything with the machine aside from browse the web with firefox. thus the crash always happens while i'm using firefox. sometimes it will go several days without crashing, sometimes it will crash several times a day. first, the system will lock up but i'll still be able to move the mouse pointer. but if i click on the trackpad the pointer turns into the rainbow wheel. shortly after that the mouse pointer will freeze and i'm unable to do anything else. interestingly, after the system completely locks up, the time in the menu bar continues to count (i have it set to show the seconds). using th...
Problem with booting from external SSD on MacBook 2016 – Sonoma OpenCore slow
Image
Hello everyone, My 2016 MacBook has a damaged internal drive, and it cannot be changed because it is soldered to the board. That's why I'm using a 500GB Samsung T7 to boot macOS Sonoma via OpenCore. The problem is that everything goes quite slow: In the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test it gives me approximately 380MB/s writing and 406MB/s reading. Isn't it supposed to go at least 600 mb/s? Since that SSD has a speed of 1050mb/s but through the port it goes like this I guess... but 380 is still very little... I don't know if it is a configuration problem, OpenCore, the external SSD or the limitation of the USB-C port on my MacBook. I installed Sonoma on top of Big Sur, but the “Start Root Patching” button keeps showing up even though I already did it once. When starting up, pages take a while to load, and opening apps also takes a long time. I was trying to do a clean install of Sonoma on the T7, but completely erasing the T7 also erased the OpenCore EFI boot and t...
Tips and advice, going for OCLP on my MacBook Pro
Image
Hi everyone, just found this was an option to keep utilising my Mac. I have a MacBookPro11,1 13 inch(late 2013), 1TB, 16GB RAM , intel Core i7, GPU Intel Iris (yes I just dumped all info I thought it could be useful). As you can see, I do not have a lot of knowledge regarding hardware and software, but I believe I will manage all the installation. Question is, from my debating with chat gpt, my conclusion was to install Ventura, as this being the sweet spot. What would you recommend, idk, any tips from previous attempts, anything. I had a doubt regarding if I would have to keep the USB, or if I could do this with an external hard drive. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/M4rs119 [link] [comments] [► Source]
Help! An error occurred while preparing the installation
Image
Sorry for the blurry image… I have an old late 2012 Mac mini I was getting fired up for my son to use and created the USB as described online. I erased the hard drive during the install process as the YouTube video I watched recommended this was the cleanest install…. Now all I get is this error and I’ve no idea what to do. I can’t even go back to the old OS now either 🤦‍♂️ Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I’m not very technical with these things but can follow instructions well 🤣🤣 submitted by /u/dgw1ll1 [link] [comments] [► Source]

Trying to reinstall Sequoia on my iMac Retina 4K late 2015
Image
Had to start over on this iMac and so it now is running Monterey. It was doing fine with OCLP and Sequoia but I had a glitch and had to wipe the machine and start over. This morning I built the installer as I have done several times on this machine and others but for some reason, when I do the final reboot to install Sequoia, I hold down command when I see the Apple logo, and then I end up back at the Monterey log in screen. If I try to run the installer from the USB drive, I get an error message saying ti isn't supported. Can anyone help me? Thanks. submitted by /u/PSVic [link] [comments] [► Source]
Issue with MacBook Pro OCLP Startup

Used OCLP with no issues for months. Ran the patcher and Mac went to update (ugh I know). Now stuck on the Apple logo update bar at 1/3 progress. Does the official installation wipe everything?
Image
Hi all, I have a probably dumb question. My Macbook pro A1502 early 2015 (i5 2.7 GHz, 8/256) runs smoothly with Monterey, but there are few apps I cannot install because they ask me for the 13.0 version. I want to install Ventura and I'm reading the official installation guide ( Booting OpenCore and macOS | OpenCore Legacy Patcher ) and my only doubt is whether this procedure is a clean installation (wipes everything) or not. In case hox can I save everything from my mac? Is Time Machine enough? PS: sorry for my English, I'm not native submitted by /u/Sim_Check [link] [comments] [► Source]

macOS Sonoma in MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
Image
Hello everyone, I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with the specifications shown in the photo, and I wanted to know if any of you have upgraded this MacBook to macOS Sonoma. Naturally, it officially supports up to macOS Big Sur 11.7.10; however, I was able to install macOS Ventura thanks to OCLP, and it worked really well. The thing is, I understand that Ventura is no longer supported. I wanted to upgrade to Sonoma, but I made a mistake during the process and have temporarily reverted to Big Sur (Internet Recovery). My usage isn’t very intensive (Firefox or Safari, LibreOffice...). How does Sonoma perform on this MacBook? Thanks! https://preview.redd.it/hkyq41kr14sf1.png?width=1396&format=png&auto=webp&s=956fe89575ef13a14e68a9a670b0590b85c01a2b submitted by /u/vrx1399 [link] [comments] [► Source]
Can we stop ranting about Mojave?
Image
I just have to make this post. "I wanna upgrade to Sonoma, will it work with these specs?" Normal post. And then theres always these people: "Upgrade to Mojave, runs best". Of course Mojave is gonna run best, since its the oldest version people still use, anything below that is literally dead AFAIK. They want to know if they can run this and this version, not if they can run Mojave. It's not that hard to understand. P.S.: MacOS Mojave is not an upgrade if they're not below that version :) submitted by /u/Z0MG_ [link] [comments] [► Source]

How can I force OCLP to actually copy the full EFI folder (with OC + BOOT) to my USB’s EFI partition?
Image
🖥️ Situation Mac: iMac 2017 (Intel) Goal: Install macOS Sonoma using OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP). USB: 64 GB, successfully created with createinstallmedia → Install macOS Sonoma volume shows up and works fine. ✅ What works I can create the Sonoma installer on the USB (disk2s2 = Install macOS Sonoma). OCLP runs “Build and Install OpenCore” without errors. The USB’s EFI partition mounts (disk2s1), and I can access it. ❌ The problem The EFI partition is empty or missing the OC folder. No BOOTx64.efi or OC/OpenCore.efi is copied. So when I reboot and press Option (⌥), my iMac only shows the internal drives (Macintosh HD, MacSSD), never EFI Boot. Sometimes I just get a gray screen when it tries to boot from USB. I’ve tried creating the folder manually and renaming OpenCore.efi → BOOTx64.efi, but OCLP doesn’t seem to generate the complete EFI anywhere on my system. 🔎 What I’ve checked diskutil list → USB detected as /dev/disk2, EFI partition = disk2s1. Mounted EFI: sudo...
Windows 7: "Missing Operating System"
Image
Hello all. I intend to dual boot Linux Mint and Windows 7 on my very old MacBook Pro 4.1 (Early 2008) and it's been a journey. I managed to get Linux to work (overriding Grub bootloader in config plist file), but I can no longer get into Windows 7 via Opencore, it shows the message "Missing Operating System". So I followed this guide and I successfully installed rEFInd and got it to show Windows on their boot menu. Thing is that now it just shows a blank screen. I REALLY don't want to reinstall Windows again. What should I do? Thanks in advance for your answer! submitted by /u/Max_RF1 [link] [comments] [► Source]
