Stuck in boot loop, help please!

Mid 2012 MacBook Pro Sequoia

Was having some random graphic issues today, squares of missing colors and logos just transparent, so went to update root patches and it said I was good. So I clicked on build and install opencore and let it do its thing, typically when I run into issues with laggy running or graphics stuff this fixes it. Well, now I’m stuck in a boot loop and I don’t know how to get out of it.

I’ve tried booting into recovery mode and do an internet recovery but says no internet, even with Ethernet plugged in. Tried booting in safe mode with no luck, reset nvram and SMC. At a complete loss here on what to do, this is my only computer and has all of our data on it. I do have an older back up from a year or two ago but that’s a lot of stuff lost.

I do not know what to do

Time Machine question

Bit of a noob question, but I'm not 100% familiar with how OCLP will affect this...

For my workflow I will likely need Tahoe sooner rather than later and will require macOS 27 and up as well, therefore I think the time has come in the new year to upgrade my main machine to Apple Silicon.

However, my current machine (Mac Pro 2013 running Sequoia) is backed up once a day to a external HD using Time Machine - will I be able to restore a newer Apple Silicon Mac using this backup, or will the OCLP install cause issues?

Thanks!

Vault doesn’t accept correct password

I’m on macOS Sequoia 15.7.3 with a MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2015) and using OCLP 2.4.1. After a recent brew upgrade (likely including MacFUSE), I suddenly can’t log in with the correct password.

I can unlock the vault and turn it off in Recovery to be able to log in, so the password itself is correct.

Enabling the vault again afterwards makes me unable to log in, and I have to unlock/disable it via Recovery each time (tried a few times already).

I’ve tried several steps, including manually installing older versions of MacFUSE and other fixes suggested by AI to address password desync, but the problem persists.

Has anyone had FileVault stop accepting the correct password after a system or driver update (possibly related to MacFUSE)? Could this be a password desync issue, and is there a way to fix it without a full macOS reinstall?

Sequoia 15.7.3 works great on iMac 2014

Sequoia 15.7.3 works great on iMac 2014

Hi guys, after your recommendation i have just installed Sequoia 15.7.3 and it works great. There is some mini-lag while switching and ending the Apps, but every program that i have tested works fine. I have installed it on SSD and it took more time than expected, but at the end it is great. Maybe it is not working 100% smooth, but it is worth when you need some apps that doesn't support older models. If you need any Information i could test it for you.

Thank you all for your comments and Happy Holidays!

Best OS for iMac 27” Late 2012? Windows vs Linux vs macOS (OCLP)

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on which operating system would be best for my iMac 27” Late 2012.

Right now I’m running macOS Sonoma using OpenCore Legacy Patcher, and it works decently, but I’m wondering if switching to Windows or Linux would give me better performance or stability.

Here are the specs:

  • iMac 27” Late 2012
  • Intel i5
  • 24 GB RAM
  • 500 GB SSD
  • NVIDIA GTX 660M

I mainly use it for everyday tasks, browsing, some light productivity, and occasional tinkering. I don’t need it for heavy gaming, but I do care about smooth performance and long-term usability.

In your opinion, what would be the best choice for this machine today:

Windows, Linux, or staying on macOS with OCLP?

And if Linux, which distro would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

MacOS Sequia runs surprisingly good on this MacBook

MacOS Sequia runs surprisingly good on this MacBook

I definitely didn't expect it to run this smooth and be this useable at all. this MacBook feels like a modern machine now. It'll serve well until I get a new MacBook Air 2026 once they release.

I'll probably will try installing MacOS 26 Tahoe on it once OCLP starts to support it. Maybe it'll be as surprising as Sequia was.

iMessage & FaceTime Not Working on iMac 27” Late 2013 (OCLP) – Tried Everything, Need Help

iMessage & FaceTime Not Working on iMac 27” Late 2013 (OCLP) – Tried Everything, Need Help

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction because I’m officially out of ideas.

I’m running macOS Sequoia (latest update) on an iMac 27” Late 2013 using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Overall, the system is running great — graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, App Store, iCloud, Handoff, AirDrop… all working perfectly.

SMBIOS in use: iMacPro1,1

The only thing not working:
iMessage and FaceTime

I’ve been fighting this for months and have tried pretty much everything I could find:

  • Signed out/in of iCloud multiple times
  • Generated new SMBIOS / serials (checked they’re not in use)
  • Verified ROM / MLB / SystemUUID
  • Reset NVRAM
  • Cleared iMessage/FaceTime caches & preferences
  • Reinstalled macOS
  • Checked date/time, network settings, VPN off, etc.
  • iCloud login works fine, App Store works fine

Still no luck. iMessage and FaceTime either fail to activate or just won’t connect at all.

At this point I’m wondering:

Is this a known limitation with OCLP on Haswell iMacs?

  • Could iMacPro1,1 SMBIOS be causing issues with iMessage/FaceTime on this model?
  • Anything specific I should double-check in OpenCore or OCLP settings?

Has anyone here successfully running iMessage/FaceTime on a Late 2013 iMac with Sequoia + OCLP?

Any recommendation, insight, or “hey I fixed this by doing X” would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help

In case anyone wants to check it out :) I can always provide the link of my EFI file

MBP7,1 keeps showing the "prohibited" (circle with line through it) symbol on boot (yes, I'm selecting the EFI first) but not consistently. It goes away sometimes after a PRAM reset and lets me boot normally

Why would this be happening? I've reapplied OpenCore many times; I've booted from an OCLP USB and this has still happened; yes I've made sure I'm first selecting the OpenCore EFI on the initial boot and then selecting the installed drive.

The thing is, I have a few other MBP7,1 models and none of them have had this issue with the exact same process. So I'm both confused by that and by the fact that this is not happening either all of the time or none of the time, but seemingly I can only properly boot without that error if I first do a PRAM reset.

Edit to add: after selecting EFI > Macintosh HD > the black background with the white Apple logo and progress bar will load to about halfway, and then the prohibited symbol appears. So it's not just immediately showing that symbol.

Any ideas?

Update process

Hello,

I need to upgrade my good old CMP to something newer (13 or 15?) because 12 is out of system requirements for so many apps.

Now Monterey is installed on my main NVME drive and since this is my main Mac I can't afford to loose data or experiment and fool around for days :)

So I have a couple of questions:

13 or 15? Which one is the most stable today?

Which would be the best/safer process to update? I have Time Machine backups on a mechanical drive and I also have a spare SATA SSD if needed.

Thanks

Kernel Panic with post installation patches

Not ready to throw the towel just yet (although it's been multiple days of trying). It started with trying to install Sequoia 15.6.1 on my:

  • iMac 27" Mid-2011 (iMac 12,2)
  • 16GB RAM DDR3 1333Mhz
  • NVIDIA Quadro K2000M flashed for boot screen
  • OEM LCD Display
  • 256GB SSD, 2TB HDD

Sequoia 15.6.1 installed just fine and I read somewhere that this version needs an additional pkg for my GPU called MetallibSupportPkg which I downloaded, and installed (matching the OS and build version) from Dortania's github. However, once I installed the post-installation patches via OCPL, the iMac gets to the login screen but freezes after the password is entered. Booting in safemode or booting having previously reverted the patches (which allows me to get past the login screen) reveals that the pc encountered a problem (and in short): Kernel panic due to division by 0 in windowsServer task traced back to the driver AppleBacklightExpert.

So far, i've tried:

  • Resetting NVRAM via opencore bootloader
  • Resetting SMC by powercycling
  • Installed Sonoma 14.8.1 (same issue with same driver)
  • Removing two sticks of RAM
  • Opening the iMac and re-seating the LCD cables
  • Reverting the patches and installing again (many many times)

IMPORTANT:

I did not do the GPU installation myself, nor do i know the implications of this. I just know that I do not have brightness control and the screen is always on full brightness. I also do not have any color profiles available in display settings, nor is the LCD recognized (just says "Unknown Display").

During my troubleshoot with ChatGPT, it mentioned that the display is not sending EDID which could interfere with the backlight driver not sending any data and causing a division by zero error.

Any and all help is appreciated if you've seen this issue before. My deepest thanks in advance!

Need some help with my 2015 macbook pro (11,5) running sequoia.

hello, need some help here. i got 2 2015 retina macbook pros from an ewaste bin last week, both with the dual iris pro / radeon r9 gpu and 16gb ram. i installed MacOS Sequoia on it using OCLP, now im having a problem.

Specifically with audio, i have no bass, ZERO AT ALL. in settings and audio midi settings it shows only a 2 channel high output, no subs. thing is i know the subs work because i installed the default supported macos on the other laptop and it has bass, and then when i put sequoia on it i encountered the same issue. i had also ran the last supported macos on this macbook too and it had bass. its pointing at a firmware or driver issue.

problem is, i have tried EVERYTHING, ive tried all known fixes and nothing has worked, ive tried post root patches several times but it doesnt show any audio patches. and ive also tried the following:

NVRAM Reset
killall coreaudiod
VoodooHDA
Direct Driver injection from a supported os.
EFI Config Plist DeviceProperties Change
CorePKG Driver injection
Boot arguements
Layout ID Spoof
ALC Injection

NOTHING has worked, still no bass or 4ch output detected.

im at a loss here, i cant think of any other way to fix this, i had the same problem in ventura aswell so my only option is to downgrade to Big Sur which i really dont want to do. i also like desktop widgets and the new lock screen on Sequoia which is why i would ideally want to keep it on sequoia.

If you have anymore ideas, please feel free to help. i need it. thank you!

I own the Mac that will never use OCLP

I own the 2020 Intel-based MacBook Pro with 4 TB ports.

This model is still supported by Tahoe. But since the next macOS version is rumoured to drop support for Intel, my MacBook will never have a chance to use OCLP.

Sadly.

Purchased a 2012 MacBook Pro

Recently got a 2012 MacBook Pro from a yard sale, and looks like the previous owner did do a factory reset on it and it booted up with Mac OS X (Mountain Lion) the App store and Safari can't connect due to the os being pretty old.

How should I proceed to get Catalina running on this?

Bug where macOS (Monterey, OCLP) will not see any wifi networks until you delete all previously saved networks? Any fix?

I've encountered this bug on a 2010 13" MacBook Pro running Monterey via OCLP—after a reboot, sometimes the computer will not detect any wifi networks despite wifi being on. It's only after I go to Advanced… and delete ALL saved wifi networks that I'm able to see available wifi signals again.

Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to (and shouldn't have to) delete saved networks in order to connect to wifi.

Upgrading minor versions but skipping....

I'm running 15.6.1 smoothly but lets say I want to go to 15.7.3.

Does it matter that there are a couple of versions in between or can I just upgrade via system settings?

I'll obvs avoid Tahoe and uncheck that in the install section.

Sequoia and minor releases updates

Hi!

I installed macOS Sequoia 15.7.3 on an old 2013 Macbook Air (macbook air 6,2) using OCLP. I’d like to understand the correct update process when new minor releases come out.

What’s the recommended way to update the system on OCLP?

Should automatic security updates be left enabled?

Is it safe to install updates directly from System Settings, or is a different procedure required?

Thank you

MacBook Air 2011 (4,2) on Monterey locks up when downloading with Firefox

On the above MBA with 4 GB RAM, I have High Sierra installed, a Catalina Dosdude version, and recently put Monterey on it with OCLP.

I thought everything went OK, but whenever I download a file with Firefox or Librewolf, the computer becomes (almost) unresponsive.

It won't freeze completely, the cursor still moves, but I can't click on other programs anymore to put them in the foreground (command + tab won't work either), the Dock won't change shape, the clock stays where it is even if I let the process take some minutes (i. e. the taskbar won't change), the fans go up high. I have to shut the MacBook down by holding the power button.

It's no use waiting for the file to download. Whether large or small files, the computer won't become responsive again after that file should have been downloaded.

This does NOT happen when I download the same file with Safari or Chrome Canary. So I thought it was a thing that affects all Firefox-based browsers. However, no problem downloading with Mullvad browser.

I did of course install all root patches after installing with OCLP. I even did it again just not to make sure. Nothing changed.

What could the problem be? This has never happened on any other OCLP install on other machines and I couldn't find this problem in forums.

keyboard & mouse not working, need urgent help macbook white 2010

Hi everyone, I’m really hoping someone here can help me. My father has a 2010 Mac with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, installed back in May. Without telling me, he recently updated to the latest macOS Sequoia, and now the Mac won’t accept any keyboard or mouse input. Built-in keyboard and mouse: not working External USB keyboard and mouse: not working Tried a USB hub: no luck The Mac does power on, but we’re completely stuck at this point. The biggest issue is that the Mac contains family photos with no backup. My father is 70 years old and unfortunately doesn’t really understand backups, so these files are extremely important to us. Please, if anyone has any suggestion on how to regain input control, access the data, or safely recover the files, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you so much in advance 🙏

iMac 2010 with GTX 780M Only Boots When USB Drive Is Plugged In

Hello,
I upgraded a 27-inch iMac (2010) with a GTX 780M (vBIOS mod) and attempted to run macOS Ventura. After installation, I am able to boot into the system. OpenCore then prompts me to install it on the internal drive, which completes successfully, including the root patches.

However, the system gets stuck on the boot screen when the USB installer is not connected. macOS only boots correctly when the USB drive is plugged in.

What would be the solution to this issue?

How could I improve the performance of my MBP 13 2014??

How could I improve the performance of my MBP 13 2014??

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me improve the performance on my MacBook. I’ve tried upgrading to Sonoma, Sequoia, and even Ventura, but I feel like my Mac is running slower compared to my 2010 15” MBP (lol). Things like animations, the browser, and even macOS itself feel smoother on my old MacBook than on this one. I’ve also used other MacBooks (like the 2013 and 2015 models) and noticed that they run Sonoma or Sequoia better than mine. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, and I’d really appreciate any help. Sorry if this topic is repetitive, but I’m really hoping to fix this issue. Thanks! :3

Issue with corrupted installer ?

I have a late 2013 iMac 21.5 inch and I’ve been trying to download the patch to see if it will help me to keep this computer. Has anyone run into this problem and is there a way to fix it because I’m out of ideas and I’ve been trying to download different files to see if it would work.

Password no longer working after updating

Im running out of places to look for an answer for this, and it may not even be related to OCP but I thought I would ask.

After my last updated, both of the OS and OCP I can no longer sign into the machine from the login screen. I could after the initial update of the OS, but after updating OCP and committing the boot loader now when I get to the login screen, my password doesn't work. However, the strange issue is it does work from the recovery mode. I even used resetPassword utility to reset the password a few times, no change. I have also tried two different keyboard, both apple branded. I have also been trying to enable the virtual keyboard for the login screen with no luck there as well just in case its just some mapping issue where the keys im pressing are not what is being inputed, but I have no way to tell.

anyway, again, not sure this is an OCP issue directly but I thought this maybe a good place to ask. please let me know if you have any ideas, I would prefer not to start from scratch. TIA.

Trouble opening Roblox on Sonoma

Trouble opening Roblox on Sonoma

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 15" with 16GB memory and 500GB RAM. When I tried running Roblox on both Sequoia and Sonoma, it crashes after 5 seconds or so. I've read posts saying that downgrading to Ventura helped, but is that really the only option? :,(

Keep in mind I'm not that tech savvy, but I'm willing to learn ^_^
