Ask

Do you recommend updating from Sequoia 15.7.3 to the latest version of Sequoia? Then, install the patches using OCL.

Stuck and cannot login while updating to latest os

I updated my 2019 macbook air (might be 2017 since oclp was showing it as 7.x something,i bought in 2019) to sequoia and everything worked smoothly then i saw there was an update for sequoia but i ignored since i was busy with work and didnt had time to update.

One day i restarted my macbook and everything started lagging. The whole UI became extremely unresponsive and my wallpaper became white. All the wallpapers stopped working except the solid color ones (red, black, violet wallpaper). So i decided to update the mac to latest sequoia and after updated the oclp automatically asked me to patch the root. so i did and everything started working again smoothly.

Then after few days i saw update for tahoe and i again ignored it for few weeks, but today i saw my diskspace started running low about 3gb free. it was strange since i dont have many apps and documents on my mac and recently i updated to newest sequoia at that time i had 40 gb free on my 128gb ssd.

so i deleted some files and apps and free up some 5 gb more. I decided to restart my mac so that it might free up more unused files.

Now again i started seeing the laggy UI, no wallpaper problem. the taskbar looks like it has not loaded the theme. whole UI looks like it is not able to load theme. the min and max animation of window is extreamly slow and i only see the border of the window slowly minimizing. Icons in finder window's side panel looks like they have not loaded properly. CPU fan runs very fast as if its trying to load something but the mac is empty and not running anything.

So i though something might be wrong with oclp patcher and when i went to patch root again . it said cannot patch root since a update is pending.

I have two side questions
1) Does mac automatically downloads the update when its available? (That might solve why i was suddenly low on diskspace).
2) If yes and if the new update has been downloaded and if i restart my mac, will it mess up with the oclp root patch? So do need to update my mac as soon as new update is available?

Now that i have started to update my mac to tahoe (which i really didnt wanted to, but i had to since the laggy UI is not allowing me to work). i am stuck with a very huge problem.

When it restarted and showed me login screen. I cannot login to my mac, it says password is wrong. i tried to recover my password. It showed i had 2 drives macos drive and update drive.

if i select the macos one then it asks me to login to my apple id then it asks the password it sent to my ipad. then it says cannot recover password since there is no account avaialbe on this drive.
if I select the update drive to recover password then it directly says there is no account on this drive to recover password.

I cannot login to macos now. The update is stuck i guess?. when i boot my mac it ask me to select a drive to boot. 1) macos installed and 2) macinstosh hd. no matter which i select the password is always wrong and i cannot recover my password also

Any workarounds for my macbook pro using OCLP with unsupported bluetooth chipset? bluetooth disconnects after sleep/wake and requires running patches and reboot everyday.

My 13" macbook pro mid 2012 2.5 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB is part of the know limitations of OCLP with unsupported bluetooth chipset, or so it appears, and I have to repatch and reboot every day (waking from sleep) Any work arounds?

MacBook Air Freezing

I’ve got a 13” 2011 MacBook Air running Monterey (12.7.4) using OCLP. It has been working great since I set it up some months ago, but lately has been freezing.

I mostly use it for email and web surfing (running Firefox as the browser). If I reboot it, it will run for a while, but then inevitably happens again.

I do notice that the fan seems to be running faster and louder than I would expect, so I don’t know if that’s relevant.

Anyone have thoughts about what to troubleshoot first?
