Hackintosh Build... Will M.2 SSD work?

I made a parts list over at https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v8LngL which will replace my 2015 macbook pro.

  • CPU: i7-6700K
  • Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5
  • RAM: 32GB Ballistix Sport LT
  • SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280
  • HDD: 2TB Seagate.
  • GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 1060
  • PSU: Corsair RMx 650W
  • Wifi: TP-Link (TL-WDN4800)

However, I've read that using a M.2 with a Hackintosh needs extra drivers post-installation, would it mean it will be unusable as a system drive?

When I've looked at regular SATA SSD drives, none was capable over 1000MB/s which felt like a big downgrade.
