I have a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro, with a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor and using Intel HD Graphics 4000. A little over a year ago I upgraded the hard-drive to a Samsung EVO SSD and it was working fine for a while then out of nowhere it just died. After some digging I figured out it was a hardware problem with the SSD and was able to get it replaced thru the warranty.
I don't want this SSD to fail again so I started looking into how to properly optimize and use this SSD properly (ie: not letting it go to "hibernate" or "sleep", enabling TRIM, etc).
Well my question is for anyone who has upgraded their MBP to an SSD and noticed that whenever you open the lid if the bootup chime occurs every time? This didn't happen before with the original hard-drive and I'm wondering if this is normal or if this could cause wear on the SSD?
If the bootup chime is occurring every time I open the lid then does that mean my laptop isn't properly "sleeping" (as in idle sleep?) and it's actually going into hibernate? I thought I properly disabled various things that would cause the MBP to hibernate, I ran the command
pmset -g assertions
and it states that
PreventUserIdleSystemSleep 0
so I would assume that it should just be idle sleeping...
TL;DR: After upgrading a 2012 Macbook Pro to SSD should the bootup chime occur every time you open the lid?
