Next Generation iPhone Battery to Feature One-Cell L-Shaped Design With Higher Capacity [Report]

Apple is working on a new battery for its next generation iPhone that will keep the L-shape introduced with the iPhone X but use only one cell, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Using only one cell instead of the current two-cell design would allow a boost from 2716 mAh to between 2900 and 3000 mAh for the 5.8-inch device.

Kuo expects Apple to release three new iPhones with Face ID next year: a 6.5-inch OLED model, a 5.8-inch OLED model, and a 6.1-inch LCD model. Apple is still expected to use a two-cell design for the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone; however, it's larger size will support a 3300 to 3400 mAh battery.
