Hello all,
After hours of work, I finally have my Ryzentosh up and running. Wifi doesn't work, but I prefer plugging in anyway. There are a few things however that worry me about this build as I plan to use it for professional photo/video editing purposes.
If anyone is curious as to why I chose Hackintosh, the answer is simple. Most of the people I work with are using Mac computers and I am sick of being handed hard drives that are incompatible with Windows. I know there are workarounds but I haven't found a reliable one, and in general, I prefer OSX. Since this is a Hackintosh community, I doubt I need to support my case further.
Here are the things that worry me so far in order of importance.
- Seems my boot drive (250gb Samsung Evo 970 Nvme SSD) is mounted to the desktop, but not in the finder (screenshots attached). This problem is two-fold. One, I have anxiety that if I accidentally eject it, it will break my system. Two, I am unable to do a time machine backup of my entire system, when I go into my time machine it only allows me to back up my 2 TB HDD where I place all my large video files. Is there a way to back up my whole system (including both the boot drive and the HDD?) does this have something to do with my boot drive being mounted to the desktop?
- I read somewhere that there is 20% CPU power decrease, but it can be remedied by adding a kext? anyone have a guide to do this?
- Monitoring thermals? I want to make sure that if I leave my machine rendering video for long periods of time, it won't melt. There doesn't seem to be a way to check thermals even after installing 3rd party apps.
- I have a 5tb exfat ssd drive that won't show up in OSX. I can see it in disk utilities but cannot access files. Is this a normal limitation of OSX?
- Sound via HDMI doesn't work.
- Since I'm new, are there any things I should keep in mind going forward with this system?
System info is as follows:
Ryzen 1600x or 1700x (I can't remember)
Aorus b450 pro wifi motherboard
16gb trident z ram
radeon rx580 GPU
seagate 2td hdd
250gb Samsung Evo 970 Nvme SSD
Thanks in Advance!
