1080p @ 14-inch question

I have a T450 with a Full HD panel, and I was wondering how did OS X work with such resolution, which is not quite Retina but still hard to work with with no scaling. Currently I'm running Windows 10 with 125% scaling and it's ok, but anything between 110% and 125% should be alright. I'm also using Kubuntu with no scaling on which the UI looks too small for my taste

I know this is a quite common res/size, so I'm asking what are you guys experience with such setup in either recent Thinkpads like mine or other laptops. I'm a programmer and I mostly work with my text editor taking 2/3 of the screen to the left and a terminal in the right taking the remaining 1/3. I'd also love to hear how OSX works with mixed internal HiDPI/non-HiDPI external monitors, currently I use a Dell Full HD 24-incher external monitor at work.
