Groups of Pixel Artifacts (in TeamViewer) — A Hardware or Software Issue?

Hello, I bought a second-hand graphics card (RX 580) for Hackintoshing and I'm worried it might be damaged. I have noticed some persistent graphical artefacts when viewing a remote desktop with TeamViewer: groups of miscoloured pixels which jump around the remote viewing window.

If I do nothing, the artefacts change at regular intervals. If I move stuff around, they refresh more frequently.

I have never observed TeamViewer working properly with this GPU in macOS, even though I have tried many different configurations:

  • Linux KVM / bare-metal
  • Using a backup vBIOS
  • Using various different AMD framebuffers

The Intel iGPU works fine with TeamViewer; the problem is related to the dGPU.

I have not noticed any graphical artefacts with the RX 580 anywhere else (including on Windows and several 3D applications). However, I think I might have noticed some graphical weirdness in DaVinci Resolve one time (though I have not used that program much and the issue could be unrelated).

So, my question:

Is this likely to be an issue of a damaged GPU (hardware)? Or is this a problem with macOS and its drivers (software)?

Also, can anyone reproduce this effect? I would definitely appreciate any feedback here since I have not found this problem anywhere else on the Internet.

Hardware:

  • GPU: Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+
  • CPU: i7-6700
  • Motherboard: ASUS H170 Pro Gaming
  • RAM: 16GB 2133MHz

Install method: Vanilla Guide

I am using Lilu and WhateverGreen.

Thanks
