My Late 2012 21.5 Inch iMac

I have an old iMac and would love to get a newer OS than what is already running which is macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 I actually tried doing it and watched a couple of Youtube videos and failed and did not make a back which a computer shop guy had to fix for me conclusion would my Late 2012 21.5 inch be able to tske a newer OS than what is currently running I would love to do it and would also post results along the way if one you guys could help me on here
