xMove 1.1 Update: Installation With the Retail OS X Lion USB
Image
Since the 10.7 Lion USB Thumb Drive became available, we've been inundated with requests for a method of using it for direct Lion installation. To this end, we've made a special new version of xMove. xMove now has 2 options- one for the traditional App Store method, and a new option that allows the USB Thumb Drive to be used to create the Installer partition. xMove Guide for USB Thumb Drive        1. Boot into existing Snow Leopard installation       2. Insert USB Thumb Drive       3. Run xMove - targeting blank partition or drive       4. Reboot and choose Installer       5. Install Lion Unfortunately, it is proving exceedingly difficult to boot the USB Thumb Drive directly. Because of the layout changes of the media in comparison to Snow Leopard, it's a multi-stage installation process necessitating changes to the bootloader. We are still actively testing and working on a...

rBoot: Rescue CD for Snow Leopard, Lion, and xMove
Image
Introducing rBoot ,   the boot CD that works with Snow Leopard and Lion! It will even boot xMove created installer partitions. Available for download at  tonymacx86.com/downloads . Features: No kernel included - boots both 10.6.x Snow Leopard and 10.7.x Lion installations. Boots  xMove-created  10.7 Lion Installer- will NOT boot the 10.7 Lion USB Thumb Drive PCI Root graphics fix for Gigabyte motherboards - Asus, MSI, etc... may require PCIRootUID=0 at boot screen for full resolution Chimera 1.5.4  bootloader NOTE: iBoot is still our recommendation for initial installation and booting the Retail Snow Leopard 10.6 or 10.6 3 DVD. Please do not upload or redistribute rBoot to any other sites.   If this utility has helped you, please consider a  contribution  to support further rBoot development.  Thanks in advance, and enjoy! -tonymacx86 & MacMan

An ATI “Update”

Last three 10.7.2 beta builds has same ATI drivers version, so no changes for 69×0. So, it’s likely we will not see anything new untill 10.7.3. Apple is never adding support for new cards durring beta tests of one osx version.(all betas of same build have same graphics cards support). netkas
Creating a Bootable USB Stick on a Hackintosh Without Windows or MS-DOS
Image
A lot of manufacturers provide DOS only firmware updaters. If you have a dual boot system with Windows it’s a piece of cake. But the issue is how do you do this on a Hackintosh without Windows installed?  Well I have found a solution, FreeDOS, a free DOS-compatible operating system for IBM-PC compatible systems. What you need: USB drive greater than 16 MB FreeDOS Base CD Blank CD or CD-RW Installation procedure: Format the USB drive as a MBR/FAT volume Burn the FreeDOS Base CD Shut down OS X and disconnect all disk drives Boot computer while ensuring that Legacy USB support is enabled in the BIOS and USB drive is connected Boot from FreeDOS Base CD and follow instructions to install. It will install by default to the 1st drive it finds. In this case it’s the USB drive as it’s the only one connected. Shutdown and reconnect all disk drives. You now have a bootable “DOS” drive. This drive is bootable and can be read and written to in OS X. You can copy any DOS based programs on t...

A nice Lion Atom Kernel
Image
A while ago after the xnu source for 10.7 came out I decided to patch up the source code to match up with what  meklort ‘s private kernel patcher module for Chameleon does for atom processors in addition to my little version overriding fix with Extensions.mkext overriding the kexts in kernelcache. He gave me permission to give out the equivalent changes his patcher module does, but only via kernel source. I didn’t post them just because I was mostly gone but since I’ve had free time (I’ve been idling on  IRC  lately) I decided to post this stuff. Here’s the kernel for 10.7.1, only patched for atom. Lemme list other things it does though. Binary:  mach_kernel_atom.10.7.1.bz2 Source diff:  10.7.1_atom.diff A few changes in it other than getting it to run on an atom processor: In OSKext.cpp, I ditched a goto so a kext in /Extra/Extensions.mkext or /Extra/Extensions/*.kext will not be disregarded if you are also loading kernelcache which also contains that same kext...

V0LTR0N vs IATKOS L1 (Aim to simplify Mac OS X Lion installation on PCs)
Image
In the wake of  Mac  OS X Lion being announced, developers Nawcom and Meklort have announced Project v0ltr0n, which aims to be "a nice and easy retail solution for installing [Mac OS X Lion] onto PCs". Here's an excerpt of some of the features that they're aiming to provide through v0ltr0n:  The ability to install OS X 10.7 Retail DVDs OS X 10.7 retail install images onto hard disks with non-GUID partitions without issues. Integrated kext patching within the bootloader for kexts which need to be patched either through their Info.plist or binary. (based on a number of netbookinstallers features) Integrated kernel patching within the bootloader for all unsupported CPUs. As of now, just basic support for AMDs have been planned, but this will make things easier for unsupported Intel CPU people as well. Retail DVD sub-package injection and autoselection, just like ModCD/ModUSB, so your hardware support gets installed with the OS. SleepEnabler.kext will not need to be upd...
