HP Spectre x360 won't boot without external monitor

Hi. I successfully got macOS High Sierra installed on my laptop, but I've run into a problem I can't fix - my computer won't boot without an external monitor. It worked fine, until I installed DisplayLink drivers - after that, when I would try to start macOS, my computer would hang at the Apple logo with the progress bar just over halfway. I've discovered, however, that if I plug in an external monitor via HDMI, my computer will continue booting almost instantly as if it were waiting for me to do so.

I'm really new to this, and the fix is probably simple, I just don't really know where to go.

Some details:

  • I followed this tutorial.
  • I have a HP Spectre x360 15-ap052nr. Specs can be found here.
  • To summarize, though, my laptop has an i7 and Intel HD 520 graphics.

From the Displays section in System Info:

Intel HD Graphics 520: Chipset Model: Intel HD Graphics 520 Type: GPU Bus: Built-In VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 1536 MB Vendor: Intel Device ID: 0x1916 Revision ID: 0x0007 Metal: Supported, feature set OSX_GPUFamily1 v2 Displays: HP 23xw: Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz Framebuffer Depth: 30-Bit Color (ARGB2101010) Display Serial Number: 6CM6220PZ2 Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Rotation: Supported Automatically Adjust Brightness: No

The top is my laptop's built-in display. The bottom is my external monitor.

If anyone has any insight as to where I could look for a fix, I'd really appreciate it.
