[SUCCESS] Fixed boot loop after installing one of the High Sierra updates

So I'm sure a lot of you have seen or are dealing with this pretty terrible clover bug. Basically on boot after installing one of the High Sierra supplemental updates, my computer would show the Apple logo with a progress bar underneath like normal and then suddenly shut off and restart. This "boot loop" would continue forever until I shut my computer off.

I tried every possible graphics integration, boot args, bios settings combination and nothing worked. At one point I had to reset my bios's cmos battery!

After some talking with our lord and savior /u/corpnewt, and reading up on people solving this problem this way - I removed my gtx970 graphics card (I simply removed the power cables from it without dismounting the entire thing) and connected my monitor to my iGPU (integrated graphics card on mobo) using an HDMI cable, and wala - mac OS successfully booted, I installed the updated nvidia web driver, shut off my pc, connected my gtx970 to its power source, hooked my monitor back up to my gtx970, and everythings working fine now.

I'm not sure why this bug exists, nv_disable=1 doesn't even work for some reason. But there's the weird black magic fix.

Let me know if you need any clarification.

  • Nvidia gtx970
  • Intel i5-3690k
  • Asus z97-a mobo
  • Asus vg248qe monitor
