Music Production Hackintosh (RAM vs CPU)

Hey everyone! So I’m looking to build a dual boot Hackintosh/Windows. I will mainly be using Mac OSX which will be for audio/music production but I will occasionally want to boot up in Windows to run Automation and Design software only for Windows.

Anyways, my main question is for music production. I currently run a mid 2014 MacBook Pro i7 2.5GHz with 16GB of RAM. I work with sessions that are sometimes fairly large (60-90 tracks) and I’ll be running some virtual instruments as well (ie. guitar rig and kontakt) For plug-ins currently I’ve been pretty into the Slate collection, along side with some of my fav Waves plugins. I’ve gotten warnings multiple times a session that my CPU is running at full capacity. When I have monitored my RAM it doesn’t seem to be using to much, maybe about 1/2, but my CPU would be maxed out.

So when I build my Hackintosh, does RAM matter as much as CPU? Originally I was thinking of getting a I7 7700K and 32GB of RAM, but now I’m wondering since my RAM consumption wasn’t being reported as extremely high, could I just go with 16GB of RAM instead? It’s about half the price then getting 32GB of RAM. Will I regret not just getting the 32GB in a couple months or will 16GB be good enough for what I generally use as stated above. It would be nice to cut expenses if it’s not necessary but if I will regret not going for more RAM I might as well just do it.

I run Pro Tools 12 and Cubase 8.

Thanks!

Ps, if anyone has any good resources for dual boot hackintosh with Windows they can share, they’d be great haha can’t find very many helpful resources
