I have seen a bunch of unanswered threads about this problem and I have finally found a solution so I though I’d share what worked for me.
I have a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 and am running High Sierra on a Ryzen build and was getting awful audio stuttering and distortion for a few seconds before audio would cut out all together.
I found a setting in my BIOS(gigabyte ga ax-370 gaming k3) called DAC rear USB port which boosts the voltage of the rear USB ports by .1, .2, and .3 volts. I boosted this by .1v and voila everything is now fixed! So if you’re having issues with an audio interface look into boosting the voltage of the usb ports :)
