Hello all, I am currently on month 3 of reading as much as I can about building a hackintosh. I'll be perfectly honest and admit I'm still not much more knowledgeable, but I think I have the basics nailed. If I had the money to purchase a "built to be a hackintosh" computer, I'd be good to go. I am not fortunate enough to have that much disposable income at this time though unfortunately.
For anyone thinking "what's this guy playing at? he sounds like a wannabe" well, I am merely doing this because it interest me. It's not for anything specific and I enjoy a challenge. I have limited knowledge of PC's, I have always built my own since pre-internet days (first build was a 286mmx 233Mhz. all my friends were jealous of my 250Mb HDD. Not even joking) and it's never been anything too technical, build - install windows - enjoy.
I've occasionally dabbled in overclocking (following online guides, not because I know how to do it)
I'm not scared to get stuck in and give it a go, that being said I'm taking my time with the hackintosh idea as the hardware I want to use cost me a lot of money about 5 years ago and I don't have the funds to replace if I break it.
(I'm assuming someone will tell me off for being irresponsible, this is the internet after all!)
Anyways, here's my question.
I have a Clevo p15SM notebook I wish to use as my base for the build. It's curently running an i7 4800qm. (haswell if I remember correctly)
Its currently running intel HD4000 and Nvidia 770M GPU.
Thus far it is my understanding that I will not be able to run the Nvidia as the GPU as the hardware is designed to switch between the 2 and IOS is not capable of telling it to do so.
So, if I replace my processor with a xeon equivalent with no integrated GPU ability will it then force the 770M to work? Or will I just find myself with a blank screen and a nagging "shouldn't have done that" kind of feeling?
