VMWare Mojave on Linux host

Wondered if you could help.

After a reboot, I have lost the scaled (HiDPI) option in the display settings. It was there previously, but for some reason I can no longer see it, which means it is almost impossible to see.

I have uninstalled / reinstall VMWare tools many times. I have tried every combination of updating ...windowserver.plist: -

sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist DisplayResolutionEnabled

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist DisplayResolutionEnabled -bool YES

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist DisplayResolutionEnabled -bool NO

I am sure when I initially set this VM up I used the 3rd option to make it appear but can't say for certain. If there is anything diagnostic I can do to try and see if there is a specific problem would be great.
