Apple Monitor with Windows PC

Hi. Couldn't figure out if this breaks the rules or not.

I got one of the Apple monitors with 3 cables for free: USB, magsafe and mini-DP.

Apparently, the mini-DP might be a thunderbolt connector.

Will this work with a mini-DP to XX adapter, or are Apple purposefully screwing me over?
