I am in need of a board recommendation for my new build. No price limit.
I’m gonna run absurd amounts of power / 5.1 all cores? What’s the best overclocking equivalent to the x299 dark?
My #1 requirement is steady, solid power delivery to the CPU. The dark can send 980 watts to it, and has insane VRM cooling, which is why I went for it initially.
I want 48 lanes, and that, along with the inflexibility to reconfigure the PCIe slots / lanes used is the downfall for the x299 dark for me. Usb 3.1 headers would also be nice (who tf doesn’t put that but puts 8x sata ports instead....).
Lane use breakdown:
I want to raid0 at least 2x 2tb Nvme m2 ssds on the cpu lanes, (VROC is a requirement) and drive my PCIe optane 900p on cpu lanes (4x *3) — 12 lanes, potential to expand to 16 if I wish to add another drive to the raid
16x *2 for my 2 Radeon VIIs — 32 lanes
usb 3.1 card (which I can ditch if the motherboard has 2 headers) 4x PCH IF IT IS NEEDED
Strix sound card 4x PCH
Thunderbolt Card? 4x cpu if I end up with it.
2x usb 3.0 internal headers would be nice so I can ditch my internal USB 3.0 hub...
Thunderbolt built in would be nice, but not an absolute requirement. If it is built in, needs to be Hackintosh friendly/compatible.
Wifi/BT needs to either be not installed but have a slot ready/replaceable so I can install a DW1830, or I need a PCH PCIe slot to install an adapter for an OS X compatible continuity / sidecar type of deal. 8 ram slots would be cool, but not necessary.
The entire system will be water cooled, so bonus points if the motherboard is water coolable.
Thoughts, anyone? :)
