The title is the short version - when I hold Option at reboot after the initial install step, I just get a black screen. Restarting without Option pressed boots like normal and has a working display.
Now the long version -
Alright, so a while back I got an old Mac Pro 3,1 up and running with Mojave using dosdude1's patcher. It came with a Quadro FX 4800, but I swapped it for a GTX 670. I don't even remember exactly why I needed to do the swap, but I do remember it being somehow necessary.
Sneak peak 'well that's your problem right there!' info incoming -- I believe getting everything working the last time around was a big pain of the ass of using the Quadro FX card for some of the setup portions and then having to swap later to the 670, maybe after installing some custom kexts. This all likely has something to do with this.
I haven't tried swapping Quadro back in yet, because as I said it's a pain in the ass, so I hoped reaching out here might provide me with a simpler solution. Is there a setting or something I'm missing in OCLP that could help me fix this problem? I checked the install log for whether or not it would show any kind of 'nvidia' related fixes, and there did seem to be one, but whatever it's doing by default must not be quite right.
Alternatively, if there is not a simple fix - and the card switcheroo doesn't help me either - I take it there's a hardware solution in the form of an AMD card. I don't have any of those lying around, but if there's a good one for sub fifty dollars out there I'd love to hear about it.
I just did a OCLP Ventura install on a Macbook Pro 9,1 this afternoon up from Catalina and it worked like a charm. I was hoping that the 3,1 would be just as smooth.
TLDR - Mac Pro 3,1 Monterey (dosdude1) to Ventura (OCLP) migration is halted by black screen instead of boot menu. GTX 670 is likely the culprit. What are my options?
